We are excited to have two well trained officers returning to us after completing the DOCJT police officer academy. Both of them have shown a high degree of ability and have brought honor to our department and community. Also our Chief William Mahoney had the honor of representing the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police.

We have noticed more reports about scams coming into our agency. One effective tactic that scammers use to remain undetected is the embarrassment that victims feel, which results in victims not reporting. Some of the best ways to help victims with crimes like this are effective reporting. Scammers can victimize hundreds of people before they are caught, but asking questions and reporting early can reduce the total number of victims each scammer can affect.

A community resource that we can share is Scambusters. Educating ourselves about scams is one of the best ways to prevent becoming a victim. If you see this, please share it with anyone you may think is at risk or could be at risk.

Why We Are Sharing This Information
As electric bicycles, electric scooters, golf carts, one-wheel devices, electric skateboards, and similar vehicles continue to grow in popularity, the Hillview Police Department has seen an increase in questions, complaints, and unsafe operation on public roadways. Many of these vehicles look alike but are governed by different laws. Before operating one on a public roadway, please understand the rules that apply to your vehicle.

A recognition post for our amazing and awesome Vader! Vader has reached the highest AKC Therapy Dog Title of Supreme Therapy Dog! He has logged over 600 visits in less than 3 years. A visit can easily be calculated for him to have several hundred contacts with people. This calculates to be tens of thousands of human contacts without any negative issues/complaints whatsoever. These visits are to schools, hospitals, doctors offices, court house, Bullitt County Dispatch, County Attorneys Office, Alternative Adult Day Care and so many other places and visits. For those that may not know him yet, Vader is a Law Enforcement K9 certified in Therapy. This is totally different than emotional support/service animals. Vader has gone through months of extreme testing and training to make the cut. His primary focus is working with SRO Priddy in our schools. He has brought smiles, giggles and laughs to so many people on a daily basis and he absolutely loves his job!
If you happen to see our Therapy Team of Priddy and Vader out and about be sure to give out a Congratulations!

Throughout the year and normally near winter holidays, we see a spike in thefts from vehicles and vehicle theft. We want to thank all the community members who have shared photos or videos with us, as we have had several nights already this year where people are out looking for targets of opportunity. In nearly all of our reports, we see the same couple of things that, if changed, can keep you from becoming a victim.

1. Don't leave keys in your vehicle.
2. Lock your car door at night.
3. Don't leave fi****ms in your vehicle overnight.
