ARMED AND DANGEROUS | This is Levi Camplin, a person of interest in a homicide happening late Saturday, Aug. 29 in Morgan County.

Police say he should be considered "armed and dangerous" and ask that you call 911 if you see him.

The radar reading pictured below was recently recorded on E. Broad Street — a posted 25 MPH zone.

63 MPH.

That is 38 MPH over the speed limit and more than 2½ times the posted limit. At 63 MPH, a vehicle is traveling approximately 92 feet every second.

E. Broad Street is not a highway. It is a residential street with homes, driveways, intersections, pedestrians, children, pets, and vehicles regularly entering and leaving the roadway.

Someone backing out of a driveway or crossing the street reasonably expects approaching traffic to be traveling somewhere near 25 MPH. A vehicle approaching at 63 MPH closes that distance dramatically faster than someone may anticipate.

This is exactly why the Lyons Police Department continues to conduct traffic enforcement on E. Broad Street. The goal isn't to write as many tickets as possible. The goal is to prevent the kind of crash where afterward everyone wishes someone had slowed down.

We understand that a few miles per hour over the limit happens. 63 MPH in a 25 MPH zone is something entirely different.

Please slow down on E. Broad Street. The few seconds you might save aren't worth someone's life.

The Lyons Police Department would like to clarify some questions regarding Flock Safety cameras around the Lyons area.

The Lyons Police Department does not own, operate, utilize, or have access to Flock cameras or the Flock system.

Flock cameras located outside of Lyons are part of Greene County’s contract with Flock Safety and are not owned, operated, or managed by the Lyons Police Department.

The Lyons Police Department does not have access to those cameras, their data, or the Greene County Flock system.

We wanted to provide this clarification in response to recent inquiries.
