INCIDENT UPDATE - August 7th 3 Alarm Barn Fire

At approximately 3:57 p.m. today, August 7th, Lyons Rural Fire District was dispatched to a reported hay barn fire.

When crews arrived, they found the barn fully involved, with fire beginning to spread into a nearby field. Due to the conditions on arrival, Lyons Command upgraded the incident to a 3rd-alarm response, bringing additional resources to the scene.

Crews quickly deployed hose lines and with the assistance of the homeowners’ available water sources, were able to contain the fire and stop its forward progress.

The densely packed hay, combined with consistent winds, made extinguishing the remaining fire and hot spots a lengthy process. Crews worked for several hours, alongside a local bulldozer operator, to safely access and extinguish the remaining burning hay.

After approximately 6 hours on scene, crews were able to cool the remaining hot spots and determine the fire was safely under control.

We at Lyons Fire want to extend a huge thank you to all of our mutual aid partners and neighboring agencies who responded and assisted us today. Your help and teamwork were instrumental in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion.

⚠️ **PLEASE NOTE:** While the fire is safely controlled, smoke may continue to be visible in the area over the coming days due to the large volume and density of hay remaining at the scene.

Thank you to our community for your patience, cooperation, and continued support. ❤️

Lyons will be following this burn ban effective immediately as well.

LINN COUNTY BURN BAN

Starting Immediately on August 3, 2026, the Linn County Fire Defense Board is taking proactive measures to address the heightened risk of fire by implementing a series of fire restrictions.

In alignment with ODF's assessment, the Linn County Fire Defense Board has announced restrictions on all open fires, including the prohibition of recreational and cooking fires originating from open fire pits that utilize wood or charcoal. This includes agricultural burning, but does not include the use of gas-fired barbeques or pellet barbeques.

The decision to enact these restrictions is in direct response to the increased fire risk and Red Flag Warnings expected this week. The Linn County Fire Defense Board will adhere to ODF's lead and uphold these limitations as long as the extreme fire danger persists. Restricting open fires is a critical component in managing local resources effectively.

Given the heightened fire risk, it is imperative that all individuals exercise extreme caution when dealing with fire-related activities, towing (chains), and recreational pursuits. Pacific Power has also cautioned about potential selective grid shutdowns to preempt transmission line issues, particularly in high-temperature and windy conditions.

The Oregon Department of Forestry and Linn County Fire Defense Board urges the community to stay informed, comply with implemented restrictions, and remain vigilant to mitigate the risk of fire incidents. Stay up to date by visiting the Oregon Department of Forestry’s restrictions and closures.

🚩RED FLAG WARNING🚩

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for parts of Lyons and surrounding areas.

Hot temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds have created critical fire weather conditions, meaning any spark can quickly become a fast-moving wildfire.

We urge all community members to remain cautious and vigilant during this period of elevated fire danger.

For additional wildfire preparedness resources, current safety information, and tips on protecting your home, visit the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s website or follow their page.

This evening, we had the privilege of visiting our dispatch partners at Metcom 911 to recognize their outstanding work and present a few special tokens of appreciation.

On June 6th, METCOM 911 received a call reporting a pregnant woman in active labor. Lyons Medic 55 was dispatched alongside Mill City Fire to assist. After arriving on scene, crews moved the patient into the ambulance, where it quickly became apparent to Paramedic Micah West that there was no time to continue transport—the baby would need to be delivered before leaving the scene.

Thanks to the calm, professional response of the crews on scene, and the steady guidance provided by METCOM's dispatchers, a healthy baby girl was safely delivered.

This evening, Dispatcher Bryanna was presented with her very first Stork Pin, a highly respected award recognizing responders who play a vital role in the successful delivery of a baby. While these calls are uncommon, they highlight the critical partnership between dispatchers and first responders.

Lyons Rural Fire District is proud to recognize both Bryanna and Micah for their exceptional teamwork and professionalism. Whether answering the call from the communications center or providing care in the field, their dedication makes a lasting difference in our community.

Congratulations, Bryanna and Micah, and thank you for everything you do.
