INCIDENT UPDATE - August 7th 3 Alarm Barn Fire
•
At approximately 3:57 p.m. today, August 7th, Lyons Rural Fire District was dispatched to a reported hay barn fire.
•
When crews arrived, they found the barn fully involved, with fire beginning to spread into a nearby field. Due to the conditions on arrival, Lyons Command upgraded the incident to a 3rd-alarm response, bringing additional resources to the scene.
•
Crews quickly deployed hose lines and with the assistance of the homeowners’ available water sources, were able to contain the fire and stop its forward progress.
•
The densely packed hay, combined with consistent winds, made extinguishing the remaining fire and hot spots a lengthy process. Crews worked for several hours, alongside a local bulldozer operator, to safely access and extinguish the remaining burning hay.
•
After approximately 6 hours on scene, crews were able to cool the remaining hot spots and determine the fire was safely under control.
•
We at Lyons Fire want to extend a huge thank you to all of our mutual aid partners and neighboring agencies who responded and assisted us today. Your help and teamwork were instrumental in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion.
•
⚠️ **PLEASE NOTE:** While the fire is safely controlled, smoke may continue to be visible in the area over the coming days due to the large volume and density of hay remaining at the scene.
•
Thank you to our community for your patience, cooperation, and continued support. ❤️
