Lussier Family Heritage Center

Lussier Family Heritage Center The Lussier Family Heritage Center provides outdoor and environmental education experiences for persons of all ages and ability levels.

We strive to connect all people with the outdoors as parks and open-spaces are vital to mental and physical well-being. Discover the Lussier Family Heritage Center as the destination for your next meeting, special event or recreational and educational activity. The center offers a unique natural setting only 10 minutes from downtown Madison in William G. Lunney Lake Farm County Park and the Capita

l Springs Recreation Area. It also is easily accessed via two major shared-use trails: the Lower Yahara River Trail and the Capital City State Trail. The Lussier Family Heritage Center connects the community to natural resources through education, recreation, and experiences. The native prairie, freshwater marsh, and oak savanna habitats on the rolling hills of glacial drumlins, offer a scenic setting for many year-round recreational opportunities and other activities including meetings, events, weddings, and educational opportunities.

⭐Meet the Interns⭐
Welcome Cam from Madison! Cam began working with Operation Fresh Start for 2 years, learning about management of wild areas and collaboration in a crew environment. During that time, Cam obtained a Chainsaw Level 1 certification, which fueled her passion and interest in forestry work. Cam believes that her passion & care for outdoor work will make her a dedicated employee. Cam hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the forestry division in Madison and develop her skills to become a arborist.

⭐Meet the Interns⭐
Meet Brier - he is excited to join Dane County Land & Water Resources Department as the Watershed Resource Engineering Division summer intern. Originally from eastern North Carolina, he relocated to Madison at the beginning of 2025 after graduating college. He studied Cultural Anthropology at Appalachian State University, with concentrations in political ecology and religious studies. Before college he volunteered for a season doing trail work with the Conservation Corps of North Carolina, conducted a research project investigating the effects of eutrophication on gelatinous zooplankton populations in the Sargasso Sea, and worked as an in-patient phlebotomist during the COVID pandemic.

⭐Meet the Interns⭐
Welcome Tara, a student at UW-Madison graduating this summer with a degree in International Studies. She took some time away from school last year to think about her future, and felt very drawn to the field of conservation. She began volunteering regularly with Dane County Parks and found she loved the work, so she is super excited to continue learning in the field this summer as a Dane County Land & Water Resources Department Intern.
