Today we gathered to mark 25 years since the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. Our commemoration took place at the Firefighters' Memorial outside Fire Station 14, designed by Fire Fighters Local 311 as a place of reflection, where anyone may pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice answering the call.

On this solemn anniversary, we remember all who ran into danger in service and selfless sacrifice for the innocent victims of the 9/11 attacks. In addition, we honor and remember those who’ve died from or continue to endure illness after responding to Ground Zero in the aftermath. May we never forget their honor.

Our 15th annual "Never Forget" Blood Drive is just a few days away!

Join us this Friday at Olbrich Botanical Gardens between 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM to give back on this 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Our blood drive comes as the nation confronts its second-ever blood supply crisis. If you haven't given blood in a while, considering signing up now!

Madison's 10th ambulance is now in service at Fire Station 1! 🚑

Medic 1 will serve the busy downtown district while also helping to address the increasing demand for emergency medical services across the entire city.

In 2025, Fire Station 1's response area generated 3,770 emergency medical calls, but each of these calls was handled by ambulances from other fire stations. With Medic 1 in service, projected call volumes and drive times for all medic units in the city are expected to decrease.

Happy birthday, CARES! 🎉

The CARES program turns 5 years old today. CARES responds to non-violent behavioral health emergencies and is Wisconsin's only 911-based alternative emergency behavioral health program.

CARES celebrates this milestone anniversary as it also approaches 15,000 total calls for service. Our teams have helped almost 9,000 people since September 1, 2021.

Each CARES response team consists of a Madison Fire Department community paramedic and a crisis worker from Journey Mental Health. The program has been warmly embraced by the community and enthusiastically supported by local leaders since its inception.

Over the past five years, CARES has grown from one team responding only in downtown Madison to three teams responding within all of Madison and Sun Prairie.

The program's continued success is a reflection of the community's desire for alternative emergency services and the lasting impact that can be achieved through effective partnerships.

Thank you, CARES, for all that you do in our community!

The 25th anniversary of 9/11 comes as our nation faces its second-ever blood supply crisis, according to the American Red Cross.

Heading to Orton Park Festival this weekend? Be on the lookout for a brand new sugar maple tree on the west end of the park!

Engine 3 helped the Friends of Orton Park with their annual tree planting this spring. Firefighters Anderson and Mielke dug the hole. Madison Parks provided the tree. Kids from the neighborhood filled the soil back in and use water from the engine to water the tree.
