We’re grateful to see the conversation continuing around homelessness, shelter, and the need for long-term housing solutions in our community.

As Madison and Dane County work to address these challenges, Porchlight remains focused on helping people move from homelessness toward stability and permanent housing. Our new purpose-built Men’s Shelter is an important part of that work—providing not only a safe place to stay, but connections to case management, housing navigation, employment support, benefits assistance, healthcare, and other resources.

We’re grateful to Channel 3000 for highlighting Madison’s new purpose-built men’s shelter, opening September 1 — an important milestone for Porchlight and our community.

This new facility will provide a safer, more dignified environment where guests can access housing-focused services and support on their path toward stability.

But a new building doesn’t mean the need has disappeared. Shelter capacity and resources remain critical, and continued community support will help us make the most of this new facility.

🔑 Pathways to Permanent Housing

Shelter is often the first step—not the final destination.

At Porchlight, we are committed to helping individuals move from homelessness to stable, permanent housing. Through housing-focused case management, housing search assistance, connections to community resources, and financial assistance programs, we work alongside guests as they take the next steps toward housing stability.

Programs like Porchlight's A Place to Call Home help remove some of the financial barriers to housing by providing assistance with application fees, security deposits, and first month's rent for eligible participants.

The new Bartillon Men's Shelter will strengthen our ability to connect guests with the support and resources they need while continuing to focus on what matters most: helping people find a place to call home.

Because everyone deserves more than shelter—they deserve the opportunity to build a stable future. Craig, shelter staff member Enrique and Willie are excited for all of the resources that will be offered at the new facility.
