The City of Madison is launching the Mayor’s Youth Council, a new student-led civic organization that will give local high school students an opportunity to learn firsthand how city government works while bringing their ideas and perspectives to the table. The Mayor’s Youth Council was established in alignment with the Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (AIM) Youth Council Network, which connects communities across Indiana with opportunities to engage young people in local government and civic leadership. Applications for the Mayor’s Youth Council are being accepted through Tuesday, December 1, 2026, at 4 PM. Eligible applicants must be high school sophomores, juniors or seniors (Grades 10–12) who attend a school located within Madison city limits. Working alongside Mayor Courtney, Youth Council members will learn more about local government, participate in community projects, and take part in City events and activities. Members will develop real-world skills in public speaking, decision-making, teamwork, leadership, and civic responsibility while contributing to efforts that help keep Madison Clean, Safe, and Beautiful. The council will meet monthly, providing members with an opportunity to discuss issues affecting their community, share ideas, and work together on projects that benefit Madison. Lady Cubs to Host Girls Soccer Sectional #29

Madison Consolidated High School is excited to welcome the participating teams and fans for postseason soccer. Come out and support the Lady Cubs as they compete for a Sectional Championship!

The Madison Lady Cubs will host the IHSAA Girls Soccer Sectional #29 at Cub Field (Turf Field) beginning Wednesday, October 7th.

Sectional play will feature two matches on Wednesday, with the winners meeting in the championship match on Saturday, October 10th.

Sectional Schedule

Wednesday, October 7
Match 1: Franklin County vs. South Dearborn — 5:30 PM
Match 2: Madison vs. Batesville — 7:30 PM

Saturday, October 10
Championship: Match 1 Winner vs. Match 2 Winner — 2:00 PM

The Sectional Champion will advance to the Regional Semifinal at Scottsburg on Wednesday, October 14 at 6:00 PM vs. the Winner of Sectional #30.

**Please note that the Cub Trail entrance will be closed to traffic during the sectional. Fans should enter the Madison Consolidated High School campus through the main high school entrance and walk down Cub Trail to the field entrance.

Restrictions:
1. Balloons, banners, and/or posters, shakers on stick, etc. are not permitted.
2. Battery powered or electronic noisemakers, sirens or whistles are not allowed.
3. Cheerleaders are not permitted.
4. The use of bands at IHSAA tourneys is not permitted.
5. Throwing of articles, including toilet tissue is not allowed.
6. No live animal mascots or pets allowed on school grounds.
8. All items listed or Outlined in the Fall Bulletin.

MCS Families:

This is a friendly reminder that next week is fall break. From Monday, October 5th, through Friday, October 9th, MCS schools will not be in session and all school offices will be closed. We hope that everyone enjoys a safe and restful week. We will welcome all students and staff back on Monday, October 12th.

Wednesday Wonder:

Did you know that Lydia Middleton, the namesake of Lydia Middleton Elementary, once traveled to work by train?

After earning her teaching license at just 18, Miss Middleton rode the Pennsylvania Railroad each day from lower Madison to teach at Pleasant Point, a one-room school in Jefferson County.

She later spent 35 years at Madison’s Lower Seminary, including 21 years as principal. That school stood where Lydia Middleton Elementary stands today! When the new school opened in 1923, it was named in her honor and still serves children over 100 years later.

Her story reminds us of the lasting impact dedicated people have across all of our MCS schools. We appreciate every staff member at Madison Consolidated Schools whose care, hard work, and commitment make a difference for our students and families each day.

MCS Families:

This is a friendly reminder that this Thursday, October 1st, all elementary students in grades PK-4 will complete academic work asynchronously and will not attend their physical buildings in-person. This is to allow for parent-teacher conferences.

All students in grades 5-12 that attend Madison Junior High School, or Madison Consolidated High School will attend their physical buildings in-person. Again, all students at the Junior High and High School will attend school as normal.
