Press Release
For Immediate Release

Officials for the Town of Medway are pleased to announce that they have been awarded a Safety Grant by the Maine Municipal Association Workers Compensation Fund in the amount of $3,000.00.

The Ed MacDonald Safety Grants and Scholarship provide financial assistance to members of the MMA Workers Compensation Fund to purchase safety equipment or services to assist in reducing the frequency and severity of workplace injuries. The grant programs are designed to prevent injuries and improve workplace safety for our Maine employees. The reduction in employee injuries also benefits the taxpayers by lessening lost hours at work, cost of claims and potential overtime expenses for employees who might have to fill in for injured co-workers.

The Maine Municipal Association has been awarding Safety Grants to members of the Workers’ Compensation fund since 1999. The Ed MacDonald Safety Grants and Scholarships are an example of a successful partnership that has been preventing workplace injuries by bestowing more than $7.1 million in the funding of 4,692 Safety Grants and 581 Scholarship. Together we are building safe communities.

In the early morning quiet of the station, while the rest of the community is just starting their coffee, a critical ritual is unfolding. The crews assigned to Rescue 887 and 888 are moving with purpose, performing the meticulous apparatus checks that form the backbone of our operational readiness
More Than a Checklist

An apparatus check is far from a "daily basic"—it is a professional commitment. When the tones drop for a cardiac arrest or a multi-vehicle accident, there is no time to wonder if the suction unit is charged or if the batteries are ready.

For the FF/EMTs on Rescue 887 and 888, "prepared for anything" isn't just a slogan; it’s a mechanical and clinical reality ensured through:

Medical Precision: Every medication, bandage, and diagnostic tool is accounted for.

Mechanical Integrity: Testing lights, sirens, and other equient to ensure these heavy-duty vehicles perform flawlessly under the stress of an emergency response.

Equipment Readiness: From checking the PSI on SCBA cylinders to testing the power inverters, every detail is scrutinized to prevent failure when it matters most.

Above and Beyond the Basics

The professionals staffing these units are dedicated members of our community who understand that the difference between a good outcome and a tragedy often lies in the details of the "pre-game." By pushing past the minimum requirements, these crews ensure that when they arrive on your doorstep, they are bringing the highest standard of care.

Rescue 887 and 888 stand ready because our crews refuse to settle for "good enough." We take pride in the gear, the trucks, and most importantly, the service we provide to our neighbors.

There is "clean," and then there is Jorgensen clean. A huge shoutout to Firefighter/EMT Jorgensen, who spent some serious elbow grease today polishing the diamond plate on Rescue 887. While it looks sharp enough to use as a mirror, this isn’t just about the aesthetics.

Why the "Spit and Polish" Matters:

Equipment Longevity: Diamond plate is designed to protect the rig, but road salt, grime, and oxidation can eat away at the metal over time. Regular polishing prevents corrosion and keeps the truck in service longer.

Safety & Visibility: Reflective surfaces help with visibility on scene. When those LEDs hit a polished surface, it ensures we’re seen from every angle.

Professional Pride: How we maintain our gear is a reflection of how we provide care. If we take this much pride in the shine of our truck, you can bet we’re bringing that same attention to detail when we respond to your call.

Next time you see 887 rolling through town, give a wave to the crew. Just be careful, the shine might be a little blinding! 😎🚒

We are thrilled to announce that as of last night, Truck 888 is officially in service and ready to respond!

Truck 888 has taken its place as our new primary "first-out" 911 rig, meaning it will be the first set of wheels out the door for emergency calls.

This upgrade wouldn't be possible without YOU. We want to extend a massive thank you to the residents of Medway. Your continued support and investment in our department allow us to stay equipped and prepared when it matters most.

We serve this community with pride, and we are honored to do so with the best tools available.

The Medway Fire Department is proud to officially welcome Louis Krafve to the team!

Louis will be serving the Town of Medway as a per diem / on-call Firefighter/EMT, answering the call to protect and care for the community during times of need. Stepping into this role takes commitment, courage, and a genuine desire to serve others, and the department is grateful that Louis has chosen to bring those qualities to Medway.

The Medway Fire Department is built on teamwork, trust, and a shared mission of service, and Louis is already a great fit for that culture. The department looks forward to watching Louis grow both personally and professionally through training, response, and service as an integral part of the fire and EMS family.

Please join the Medway Fire Department in giving Louis a warm welcome. Louis is a valued addition, and the community is fortunate to have another dedicated professional ready to serve.

Early this morning, 10 Medway Fire Department personnel responded to multiple emergency calls occurring simultaneously as high winds impacted the area through the morning hours. At approximately 3:22 am, the temperature in Medway was around 30°F, with strong winds and gusts contributing to hazardous conditions.

Completed incidents included multiple trees down on Grindstone Road, trees obstructing travel lanes on I-95, and trees and downed wires on Pattagumpus Road. Crews worked to secure scenes, manage roadway hazards, and coordinate with utility providers and partner agencies until all calls were completed and conditions stabilized.

Safety Reminder Downed Power Lines

Residents are reminded that any downed wires should always be assumed to be energized. Do not drive over, touch, or attempt to move wires under any circumstances, even if they appear inactive.

If you encounter downed wires:

Stay at least 50 feet or more away
Keep others clear of the area
Call 911 immediately with the
location
If a wire falls onto your vehicle, remain inside the vehicle until emergency responders or utility personnel advise it is safe to exit

While conditions have improved, high wind events can cause delayed tree failures and secondary hazards. The public is encouraged to remain alert and report any additional hazards.

The Medway Fire Department thanks the public for their cooperation and patience during this early morning weather event.
