Investing in the next generation of engineers starts with creating meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and lead.
This summer, 23 Urban Fellow interns in the City of Memphis Division of Engineering are gaining hands-on experience while learning from industry and transportation leaders who are sharing their expertise with our future professionals.
A special thank you to Rick Bigger of Federal Express, Mary “MJ” McConner, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation for helping provide an engaging and impactful experience for our interns. From leadership lessons on authenticity, perseverance, and purpose to professional development focused on communication, personal branding, relationship building, and accountability, these sessions are equipping our interns with skills that will serve them throughout their careers.
The cohort is also exploring transportation operations, engineering design, weather emergency response, and emerging technologies through a visit to TDOT Region 4 in Jackson, Tennessee. A live Drone and LiDAR flight demonstration is giving interns a firsthand look at the innovative tools shaping the future of infrastructure and transportation.
The City of Memphis is grateful for the partners who continue to invest in young talent and help strengthen the pipeline of future engineers, leaders, and public servants. Together, we are building stronger communities and creating opportunities for the next generation to thrive.
