Jaheim’s story is just one example of how MPLOY is transforming futures. From his first job to leading his team, he’s building skills, confidence, and a brighter path. Big thanks to Wrapzody and to Mayor Young for investing in our youth. This is what hands-on opportunity looks like.

Investing in the next generation of engineers starts with creating meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and lead.

This summer, 23 Urban Fellow interns in the City of Memphis Division of Engineering are gaining hands-on experience while learning from industry and transportation leaders who are sharing their expertise with our future professionals.

A special thank you to Rick Bigger of Federal Express, Mary “MJ” McConner, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation for helping provide an engaging and impactful experience for our interns. From leadership lessons on authenticity, perseverance, and purpose to professional development focused on communication, personal branding, relationship building, and accountability, these sessions are equipping our interns with skills that will serve them throughout their careers.

The cohort is also exploring transportation operations, engineering design, weather emergency response, and emerging technologies through a visit to TDOT Region 4 in Jackson, Tennessee. A live Drone and LiDAR flight demonstration is giving interns a firsthand look at the innovative tools shaping the future of infrastructure and transportation.

The City of Memphis is grateful for the partners who continue to invest in young talent and help strengthen the pipeline of future engineers, leaders, and public servants. Together, we are building stronger communities and creating opportunities for the next generation to thrive.

~ Riverside Drive is set to reopen this Friday! The street was recently closed for most of the month of May due to the festivals. However the new design requires extensive reinstallation of bollards, escaping, and other structural features - which caused the reopen date to be pushed a little further than in previous years.

“We confirmed with the Mayor’s office at the Street is set to reopen this Friday. We have received several emails and messages about this particular topic - so we wanted to get an update for you all today.” said DNA President Jerred Price.

“We are strongly pushing back against any proposed nightly closures that have been talked about and will continue to ensure that this does not happen - especially considering the adverse effect that it has on our neighbors on Front Street and in the South Main corridor. We are working diligently and directly with the Mayor’s office to ensure that the community’s voice is heard and that this nightly closure is not implemented. After all, we have already visited this issue years ago and put it to a community poll to find that 67% of the community does not support nightly closures” Price added.

“If safety in the park is a concern, it’s a policing and security issue, not a ‘let’s close the Street issue’. All this does is push people to the next block. And if closing streets now is a solution to safety, nearly half the city would be shut down and we wouldn’t be able to go anywhere past 11 PM. We can’t treat this road differently than others” added Price.

When communities come together, real impact happens.

More than 300 residents joined us at EmPOWER the Block in Castalia/Magnolia for a day of connection, learning, and access to resources that can help lower energy costs and strengthen households. Through partnerships with Lowe's and TVA, neighbors connected with tools, information, and opportunities that can make a difference long after the event ends.

Building stronger neighborhoods starts with connecting residents to the resources. By bringing resources directly into neighborhoods, we're helping more residents access opportunities that support long-term stability and success.

Yesterday, we celebrated the unveiling of James A. Bridges, Sr. Avenue at the intersection of Mississippi Boulevard and Bullington Avenue, honoring a Memphian whose legacy of service, leadership, and entrepreneurship has left a lasting mark on our city.

A veteran, educator, businessman, community advocate, and faithful servant leader, Mr. Bridges has spent decades investing in Memphis and its people. From breaking barriers as a business owner to mentoring future generations and serving countless organizations, his impact continues to be felt across our community.

May this street designation serve as a lasting tribute to a life dedicated to service, opportunity, and uplifting others.
