The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office enjoyed another successful weekend at the Asian Night Market at Agricenter International on September 26–27.

SCSO deputies and Emergency Services personnel were on hand to help everyone enjoy the event safely. Food vendors brought people together for a weekend of great food and community. Thank you to everyone who came out!

Today, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies and members of our Community Engagement Team joined Bethel Church for their Community Appreciation Day honoring first responders.

Corrections Deputy Maurice Fuller spoke on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, expressing our gratitude and appreciation for the recognition and continued support from the community.

We are grateful to Bethel Church for the warm welcome and recognition. SCSO appreciates the continued support of our community and opportunities like this to strengthen the relationships between our deputies and the people we serve.

Today, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office’s Community Engagement Team joined Sheriff Anthony Buckner in attending the S.O.W Community Outreach (Serving Others Well) meeting at the Davis Community Center in Memphis.

This “Bridge the Gap Community Dialogue and Resource Fair” brought together community members, city and county officials, law enforcement, judicial officials, and local leaders to discuss crime, violence, public safety, education, and the future of Shelby County. Thank you to founders Burlawn and Rachel Street for spearheading and leading the effort of strengthening partnerships and encouraging future conversations throughout the city.

It was a beautiful, sunny day at Raleigh Springs Civic Center! The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Community Engagement Team, along with our Crime Prevention and McGruff the Crime Dog, had a fantastic time today visiting patrons and vendors at the Paws & More Paws Dog Expo. McGruff met plenty of dogs, as well as a kitten, making plenty of smiles along the way.

Building positive relationships with our community is a daily commitment from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. We welcomed the opportunity to connect with the citizens in all parts of Shelby County at the Dog Expo. Thank you for welcoming us!

What a great day at Evans Elementary School!

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Community Engagement Team, along with our Crime Prevention and McGruff the Crime Dog, had a fantastic time visiting the students yesterday! We enjoyed spending time with the kids, sharing important safety tips, answering questions, and, of course, making plenty of smiles along the way.

Building positive relationships with our community starts at a young age, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with the students and staff at Evans Elementary School. Thank you for welcoming us!

The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training program held its 114th Session Commencement ceremony for its newest members on September 25 at the Memphis Police Department Training Academy. These 24 personnel represented various agencies -- Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Memphis Police Department, Memphis Police Department Emergency Communications Bureau, Memphis Fire Department, Shelby County Division of Corrections, and the U.S. Marshals Office.

Congratulations to SCSO Deputy George Spence from Uniform Patrol who graduated and accepted this new role serving the citizens of Shelby County as a CIT member. Captain Arthur Steward presented the CIT graduation certificates to Deputy Spence. Lieutenant Charles Jefferson also attended the ceremony.

The CIT program, which started in Memphis in 1988, is a community partnership of law enforcement, mental health and addiction professionals, individuals who live with mental illness and/or addiction disorders, their families, and other advocates. Guest speaker Alex Hannah, who is currently serving as the ambassador for Special Olympics in Memphis, delivered a heartfelt testimony of his struggles with autism.

Tonight, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office joined the community at the Memphis Botanic Garden for the annual Garden of Lights Memorial Ceremony in honor of the National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims. This meaningful event, sponsored by the Crime Victims Crisis Center, offered an earnest tribute to families impacted by homicide, providing a space to honor, remember, and say the names of loved ones whose lives were tragically cut short by violence.

Our deputies stood alongside these families during this “Growing with Grief” program of music, prayers, and testimonials, offering support, compassion, and solidarity in their journey of healing. Together, we remain committed to honoring their memories and fostering a safer, stronger community.

**SCHEDULE UPDATE** Fall 2026 Citizen’s Academy

The dates for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy Ambassador Program have changed. The program will now run October 13 through November 19, instead of beginning October 6.

The application deadline is now October 2.
