Freedom Prep Academy - Memphis Freedom Preparatory Academy is a public charter school established in 2009.

Freedom Preparatory Academy Charter Schools: A network of four schools in Memphis, TN, serving PreK-12 students, and a K-5 campus in Birmingham, AL, dedicated to preparing all students for college and life. The mission of Freedom Prep Academy is to prepare all students in grades Pre-K - 12 to excel in college and in life. Freedom Prep offers an individualized and rigorous instructional program for

each of its students with a diverse array of academic enrichment activities. For the past two years, Freedom Prep has earned the title of the #1 Tennessee Public School for Reading/Language Arts Growth and Top 50 for Math Growth in Tennessee. Additionally, Freedom Prep Academy is the #1 Performing Public Middle School in Whitehaven/Westwood for Composite Growth with average growth scores more than double of those of surrounding neighborhood schools. Freedom Prep is a member of the Excellent Schools Network (ESN), a select group of schools that have demonstrated strong academic results, sound organizational practices, and the genuine ability to close the achievement gap in their communities. Because of their outstanding academic and organizational performance, these schools have been chosen for further investment and support from Building Excellent Schools.

A night of books, family, and fun! 🧡

Our Millbranch students and families enjoyed a special Library Night at the Memphis Public Libraries Whitehaven-Millbranch branch recently, where students received new library cards and families discovered all the resources and opportunities their local library has to offer.

Nights like these bring our core values to life, especially Community, Responsibility, and Excellence. When families, schools, and community partners come together, students have more opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.

At Freedom Prep, we believe literacy is liberation. Through our Liberation Legacy Campaign, we are committed to helping every student build the literacy skills they need to unlock new possibilities and prepare for college and life.

We know yesterday’s storm brought challenges to many families across our community. We hope everyone is safe and doing well.

Freedom Prep Academy Memphis schools will be open and operating on a normal schedule on Monday, August 24, 2026.

We look forward to welcoming our students and teachers back to school. Thank you for your continued partnership as our Mid-South community recovers from the storm.
