University Schools

University Schools University Schools, the first Innovative School District in the state of TN, serving over 1,200 students from all 36 zip codes in Shelby County.

While our schools were first established over 100 years ago as a training site for our teacher training programs, the full "compendium" was established in 2019 to ensure a full path for children from birth through high school graduation. The University Schools, as public school partnerships with Memphis Shelby County Schools (MSCS), have no academic requirements for entry, consistently rank in the top five percent of all K-12 schools in the state of Tennessee for both achievement and growth, and offer a wide range of extended learning and athletic opportunities for students. Our three early childhood programs are all accredited and provide scholarship options for students who do not have the financial means to pay tuition for attendance. Each of our schools is staffed by UofM faculty and staff, a majority of whom hold advanced degrees, and serves as a training, or laboratory school, for programs and residency support for teachers and practitioners at the University. The schools also serve as a site for ongoing research conducted across the colleges of our Carnegie R1 research facility.

University Schools on WREG News Channel 3!

We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Angela Hargrave, Senior Director of Student Services, who joined WREG News Channel 3 to discuss Project AWARE and the exciting work ahead to expand access to mental health services for children and families across Shelby County.

Through this historic $7.5 million SAMHSA grant, University Schools is helping build a stronger, more accessible system of care focused on prevention, early identification, intervention and connection to clinical services. Dr. Hargrave shared how Project AWARE will help meet families where they are so more young people can get support before they reach a point of crisis.

We are grateful to Dr. Hargrave for representing University Schools and highlighting the powerful impact this work can have across our community. πŸ’™

πŸŽ‰ Celebrating Dr. Rebecca Scott! πŸŽ‰

We are thrilled to celebrate Dr. Rebecca Scott, Director of Campus School, who has been named the 2026–27 West Grand Division Principal of the Year by the Tennessee Department of Education!

This is the highest recognition ever received by a University Schools principal and a fitting celebration of a leader whose impact is felt every day by students, families and educators. Dr. Scott has built a joyful, innovative school community where children are known and supported, and where teachers are empowered to thrive.

As University Schools Superintendent Dr. Sally Parish shared, β€œAround here, we call her the G.O.A.T. She is our rock and our foundation.”

We could not be prouder of Dr. Scott and the heart and vision she brings to University Schools every single day. Please join us in celebrating this remarkable and well-deserved honor! πŸ’™πŸ―

🌟 Celebrating UHS Senior Jasmine Bernard! 🌟

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Jasmine Bernard, a senior at University High School, who was named one of four 2026 MLK Keepers of the Dream honorees!

Jasmine was recognized today during a special ceremony at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis, honoring young people who are making a meaningful impact in their communities, and whose leadership, character and service demonstrate a commitment to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Jasmine was joined by proud University High School Assistant Directors Dr. Nicara McKenzie and Jenice Moffett, and District Assistant Director of Academic Innovation Lauren Beaupre.

This is an extraordinary honor and a powerful reflection of the kind of student leader Jasmine is. She represents University High School with purpose, compassion and excellence, and we are thrilled to see her included among such an inspiring group of young Memphis leaders.

Please join us in congratulating Jasmine on this well-deserved recognition! πŸ’™πŸ™Œ

πŸŽ‰ Historic News! University Schools has received a $7.5 million SAMHSA grant to launch Project AWARE, creating a countywide network that connects children and families to mental health services and support.

This landmark investment β€” the largest grant in University Schools' 114-year history β€” will help ensure that every child has access to the care they need, regardless of what school they attend.
"This grant allows us to expand our reach beyond only serving the children in our district," said Dr. Sally Parish, Vice Provost and Superintendent of University Schools.

Together with the University of Memphis and our community partners, we are building a countywide system of care focused on prevention, early identification, intervention and access to treatment β€” meeting families where they are and ensuring no child falls through the cracks. Our ultimate aim? Building a stronger, healthier future for children across Memphis and Shelby County. πŸ’™

β€œ'Our kids know that we care.'

"That’s the message that stuck with me for the rest of the day after spending 90 minutes with a portion of the leadership team at University Schools. It was immediately evident while walking through the school with Dr. Sally Parish, the Director of Schools, as a group of middle school students excitedly invited her to a function that their class was planning."
