On September 1st at approximately 17:00 Merkel Fire was dispatched to a structure fire in the 1300 Block of El Paso. Upon arrival the crews found a single family dwelling and garage fully engulfed with fire. Both buildings were dilapidated and one was collapsed prior to the fire. A defensive attack was made to contain the fire to the property of origin. The buildings were a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Automatic aid was received from Tye Fire Department,Trent Volunteer Fire Dept,View Volunteer Fire Department, and Potosi Volunteer Fire Department.

On August 16th at 14:00 hours Merkel Fire was dispatched for mutual aid with Mulberry Canyon for a wildland fire. Upon our arrival units found a moderate size wildland fire in heavy brush. Due to limited access and intensity of the fire the Texas AM Forest service was notified for assistance. Heavy equipment, aircraft, and a helicopter were used to help control the fire. No structures were lost and the fire was brought under control as of 23:00 last night. TIFMAS crews will patrol the fire line today looking for additional hot spots. Thank you to all of our mutual aid partners who assisted or covered our response area.

At approximately 07:00 this morning Merkel Fire was dispatched for an automatic aid response to Tye VFD for a structural fire. Upon arrival crews found a single story manufactured home with heavy smoke and flames showing. Crews made an offensive attack on the building and were able to save a portion of the home. However, the majority of the home is considered a total loss.
