Metamora Fire & Rescue - Michigan Metamora Fire proudly protects about 5,000 residents in an area of approximately 35 square miles, which encompasses the Village and Township of Metamora.

As a memeber of the MTFD you can expect benefits such as, pride in helping your community, comradery, and an extended family. Other benefits include line of duty death and dismemberment insurance, cancer screening, and 405 retirement plan.

This is a public service announcement for those who may not know what’s going on.

•There a several active wildfires in Canada & Minnesota

•These fires will likely burn for awhile as they are in remote areas and not easily accessed by firefighters to extinguish them

•The smoke from these fires has blanketed the state of Michigan in a layer of thick smoke. This is why it is hazy outside and the sun is orange / red in color

•Air quality is horrible. Doesn’t matter if you’re in Detroit, Bangor, Roscommon or Ewen. It’s bad

•The smoke will briefly clear out Friday evening but air quality will likely still be impacted all weekend

Now here’s what you can do in response. (we are not healthcare professionals, but we will relay what the experts say. we are not responsible for your health or safety!)

•Stay indoors as much as possible

•Run HVAC & car AC units on recirculate (MERV-13 filters are recommended for home HVAC)

•Wear an N95 mask if you have one

•DO NOT call 911 to report smoke or smell of smoke. Dispatch centers are overwhelmed by these calls already. Don’t add to that extra load. - DO CALL 911 if you are certain you are seeing active fire / flames

All of the smoke is from the wild fires in Canada. We all are aware of the smoke and haze in the air. Central Dispatch has been swamped with calls about the smoke all day long. So please be aware of this before calling 911.
