About Rachel & Keve:
Friends since the age of 10, Rachel Handman-violin and Keve Wilson-oboe, grew up dreaming of performing on Broadway, and spent every Saturday studying at Manhattan School of Music as teenagers, where they would practice showtunes and Irish jigs and reels. Having realized that Broadway dream, they were in the orchestra for the 2018 Broadway revival of Carousel and recently played together in the new Sondheim musical Here We Are, as well as over 20 other Broadway shows. From Carnegie Hall to small intimate gatherings, this violin and oboe duo pushes the boundaries of musical genre — fusing classical virtuosity with the spontaneity of a bluegrass band. Rachel spent a year in Bolivia, performing string quartets by day and in Bolivian cafes by night. Keve traveled to Europe as oboist with the Absolute Ensemble and learned how to Irish jig like a fiddler. Rachel and Keve have performed at music festivals and on concert series around the country. Their debut album, The Catskill Sessions, is available on the CCR/NAXOS label and available on all streaming services. Rachel and Keve are joined by guitarist and arranger Justin Rothberg.

This week we're celebrating our incredible school counselors, Mr. Joe Henry and Mrs. Chelsea Martinez!

Annette Island School District is so fortunate to have two counselors who are true champions for our students. Their compassion and dedication to all students, coupled with their endless ideas with new opportunities for students and our community, make them truly invaluable to Metlakatla!

Today is the last day to purchase this design!

If you haven't already, please consider purchasing a shirt or sweatshirt to support the Annette Island School District’s first Xsoo (Canoe) Club! Purchase a shirt ($25 YS-5X) or sweatshirt ($40 YXS-5X) from Custom Ink to help support their journey to Celebration 2026 in Juneau!

https://www.customink.com/fundraising/aisd-xsoo-club-2026

We are very fortunate to have three incredible Metlakatla Artists design a series of THREE original shirts with proceeds going directly to our Xsoo Club to support their first trip! This first design was created by Gyibaawm Laxha (David R. Boxley). Collect all three shirts and help send our students and community members to Juneau!

What is the Xsoo (Canoe) Club?

Xsoo Club is a group that brings together the community with students at AISD by having a family member travel with a student. We are also training AISD staff to be club leaders as one part of the effort to integrate Ts’msyen culture into their classrooms. This will be the very first time canoes from Metlakatla will be traveling to Juneau for Celebration and the group that are traveling from the southernmost community of southeast Alaska. We are asking for your support to help us get there, because when we pull together as our ancestors did, anything is possible. Wayi Wah!
