Update: Earlier today, Prime Air Flight 7598 overran Miami International Airport’s diagonal runway. Two of our four runways are currently open, but we are still experiencing impacts from this incident. Passengers with flights scheduled today should check directly with their airline for flight status updates before heading to the airport.

ACTUALIZACIÓN N.º 2 DEL INCIDENTE DE : 6 DE SEPT. - 6:25 P.M.

El domingo 6 de septiembre, a la 1:55 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue recibió reportes de un avión de carga que había chocado contra varios vehículos cerca del Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami.

Más de 60 unidades y aproximadamente 200 bomberos acudieron al lugar. Al llegar, encontraron la aeronave fuera del área operativa del aeropuerto, envuelta en llamas y con una gran cantidad de humo. Los bomberos enfrentaron un incendio complejo en el compartimento del motor y utilizaron espuma de unidades especializadas en incendios aeroportuarios para extinguirlo. También realizaron labores de búsqueda y rescate, y localizaron y evaluaron a los pacientes en toda la zona del incidente.

Una persona quedó atrapada debajo de uno de los vehículos involucrados y tuvo que ser liberada por personal especializado en rescate técnico. Las unidades especializadas en materiales peligrosos (HazMat) apagaron de manera segura el motor de la aeronave y trabajaron para controlar una fuga de combustible.

Los bomberos trasladaron a cinco pacientes a hospitales locales.

Actualmente, desempeñamos una función de apoyo y mantenemos unidades en el lugar para colaborar con otras agencias y controlar la fuga de combustible que continúa.

Este incidente no representa ningún riesgo para la seguridad de la comunidad de Miami-Dade. Pedimos evitar la zona en la medida de lo posible, ya que el incidente sigue en curso.

INCIDENT UPDATE NO. 2: SEPT. 6 - 6:25 P.M.

On Sunday, Sept. 6, at 1:55 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) received reports of a hazardous situation involving a cargo plane that struck multiple vehicles near Miami International Airport.

More than 60 units and approximately 200 personnel responded, arriving to find an airplane that had stopped beyond the airport operational boundary with heavy flames and smoke showing. Firefighters encountered a complex engine compartment fire and used foam from specialized airport firefighting units to extinguish the flames. Crews conducted search and rescue operations, locating and assessing patients throughout the scene.

One person was trapped under one of the involved vehicles and had to be extricated by specialized MDFR technical rescue personnel. Specialized MDFR hazardous materials units safely shut down the aircraft’s engine and worked to mitigate a fuel leak.

MDFR transported five patients to local area hospitals.

We are now operating in a supportive role, with units remaining on scene to assist partner agencies and mitigate an ongoing fuel leak.

There are no public safety concerns for our Miami-Dade community. We ask that the area be avoided if possible, as this is an ongoing incident.

INCIDENT UPDATE #1: SEPT. 6 - 3:25 P.M.

Over 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units are on scene of an incident involving a plane that overran a runway and struck multiple vehicles near Miami International Airport. Units arrived to find an airplane that had caught on fire as a result of this crash, with heavy flames and smoke showing. Firefighters are working on extinguishing the fire and assessing patients.

Prime Air Flight 7598 overran Miami International Airport’s diagonal runway at approximately 2 p.m. today, leaving the aircraft disabled at the northwest end of the airport. All MIA runways and taxiways are currently closed, and a full ground stop is in effect. Passengers with flights scheduled today should check directly with their airline for flight status updates before heading to the airport.

Ahead of Labor Day weekend, keep fire safety top of mind before heading out on a boat. Take a moment to check that your boat is fully stocked and ready with a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit, an emergency radio, and other safety essentials. If you plan on boating this weekend, remember to check the weather, wear a personal flotation device, keep your radio tuned to VHF Channel 16, and file a float plan. If weather permits, enjoy your time on the water and stay safe.

Join Miami-Dade Fire Rescue in congratulating Chief Michael Ung on his promotion to Division Chief.

Division chiefs oversee specific areas of the department, helping guide the personnel, programs, and operations within their assigned divisions. As Chief of Training, Chief Ung leads the Training Division, which provides training, continuing education and career development opportunities for personnel. Through this work, the division helps employees strengthen their knowledge and skills while supporting the department’s ability to provide high-quality service to the Miami-Dade County community.

This past month, Ray Jadallah personally met with Chief Ung to present him with his badge and insignia, and to discuss the responsibility that comes with his new role.

Today, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue welcomed 42 new recruits as they took their first steps toward becoming Miami-Dade County firefighters.

Recruit Class 162 is made up of non-certified recruits who will spend the next three months at the Miami Dade College Fire Academy completing minimum standards training and working toward earning their Florida State Firefighter Certification.

Once certified, they’ll return to the Training Center to begin their formal recruit training, preparing them with the skills and knowledge needed to one day serve communities across Miami-Dade County.
