The Milwaukee Bar Association (MBA) members marked the MBA’s 150th anniversary with an ambitious public service project to improve access to justice in Milwaukee County. This project resulted in a three way partnership between the MBA, Milwaukee County Clerk of Circuit Court, and Marquette University Law School creating the Milwaukee Justice Center. Many people in Milwaukee County are unable to afford legal representation, and as a result their access to justice is severely limited. The Milwaukee Justice Center exists in order to bridge this gap. Although it is encouraged to retain an attorney, if you cannot afford one the services of MJC are here to help navigate the paper work and the filing process in the areas of family law and small claims.

The MJC is the self-help legal center inside Milwaukee County Courthouse (Room G-9). It is a partnership between Milwaukee County, Marquette University Law School, and the Milwaukee Bar Assocation. In 2016, the MJC utilized the services of over 380 volunteers to assist 9809 individuals with their civil legal question.

Mission: The Milwaukee Justice Center is a collaborative endeavor between Milwaukee County, Marquette University Law School, and the Milwaukee Bar Association to provide free legal assistance to Milwaukee County's unrepresented litigants through court-based self-help desks and legal resources.

Run for Justice | Milwaukee Justice Center

The 10th Annual Run for Justice has been changed for 2020 with hopes to have a major celebration of this event, together in Veterans' Park, in June 2021.

Please join us for a 2020 "Do-it-Yourself Run for the MJC". Maybe you've trained and are ready for a 5k, maybe you want a nice 1-mile walk, maybe your dogs want to walk you through the woods, or maybe you just want to raise a toast to the importance of access-to-justice in our community from your couch. You do it yourself, your way!

Register or Donate at the link below, do your thing anytime in June, and on June 17th at 530pm, we will share a video from us to thank you for your support, introduce our 2020 Jon Allen Pace Setter Volunteers of the Year, and share a toast with you.

Then, in 2021, we will gather for a super 10th Annual Run for Justice party, with all the t-shirts, give-aways, beverages, and fun you have come to enjoy at this event.

Online Legal Resources | Milwaukee Justice Center

The Milwaukee Justice Center, the civil legal self-help center in the courthouse, stands with those demanding racial justice and equity in our country. Through our work, we see the challenges many people, but primarily people of color, experience when seeking help through the legal system. Unfortunately, in our society many people cannot afford an attorney to represent them and are unable to get free representation. However, everyone deserves equal justice under law.

To see what legal resources exist to help you in Milwaukee, take the online legal check-up quiz found at the top of our online resources page.
