"Hurricane"
by Mary Oliver

It didn’t behave
like anything you had
ever imagined. The wind
tore at the trees, the rain
fell for days slant and hard.
The back of the hand
to everything. I watched
the trees bow and their leaves fall
and crawl back into the earth.
As though, that was that.
This was one hurricane
I lived through, the other one
was of a different sort, and
lasted longer. Then
I felt my own leaves giving up and
falling. The back of the hand to
everything. But listen now to what happened
to the actual trees;
toward the end of that summer they
pushed new leaves from their stubbed limbs.
It was the wrong season, yes,
but they couldn’t stop. They
looked like telephone poles and didn’t
care. And after the leaves came
blossoms. For some things
there are no wrong seasons.
Which is what I dream of for me.

"Grief work is not passive: it implies an ongoing practice of deepening, attending and listening. It is an act of devotion, rooted in love and compassion."

Choosing to live fully after a loss isn't a betrayal to those who have passed; it's a tribute to them. Embracing life again honors their memory, reflecting the love and lessons they imparted. It's a way of carrying their legacy forward, celebrating their impact on our lives. And we all know it’s so much easier said than done. The only way across the pain is through the pain, and when living begins again, important not to resist it, because of disloyal feelings.

Thank you to those who attended our group on Saturday. It was a beautiful day to connect.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, you're not alone.

It can be hard to keep up sometimes.

When anxiety takes over, it becomes a thief of the present and a catastrophizer of the future.

Stress affects our mind and body by activating our fight-or-flight response.

Worries and fears hinder our peace, creativity, and flow.

When we allow ourselves to sit with the feelings of stress and move through it, sometimes beneath it is sadness and anger.

When we release it, perhaps on the other side is peace.

In our supportive community Spark we experience classes using movement, breath, and sound to transform pain and suffering in empowering ways, to witness grief, and move toward more love, play, and meaning.

This month in Spark, our theme is Shifting Stress.

We'll explore embodied ways to manage and transform anxiety and stress, whether it's ways to self-regulate when feeling anxious or traumatized.

This practice embraces movement, breath, and sound to release pain and find empowering ways to open the heart to connect to more love, grace, and gratitude.

Join us in Spark for Live 60-minute classes on Thursdays at 12:00 pm PT/ 3:00 pm ET.

I would love to see you live, but if you can't make it, all of the classes will be recorded and available on your platform for you to experience in your own time.

Last Saturday we had a full group, despite the chilly weather. The rain stopped and the sun came out. I was filled with gratitude for the opportunity to witness so many stories and connections being made.

The next group will meet Saturday, November 18th. This time we will start around a fire. Watch for details to come.

Disenfranchised grief, sometimes called hidden or silent grief, is grief that is not acknowledged or recognized as valid or acceptable to society. There are many examples of this, one being those who've experienced miscarriage.

Connection promotes healing.

If you can relate to disenfranchised grief, you don't have to face it alone.
