Rest easy, Diane. 🧑

The Roosevelt Park Zoo is sad to share news of the peaceful passing of Diane, a 12-year-old female warthog, due to ongoing health issues related to her age.

Warthogs typically live 7-11 years in the wild, but can live into their teens under proper human care. Diane passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26th, surrounded by her loving animal care team. While it is always difficult to say goodbye to a beloved member of our zoo family, the team takes comfort in knowing that she lived a full and happy life while inspiring many people.

Diane arrived at the Roosevelt Park Zoo in 2016 and quickly became a memorable member of the Roosevelt Park Zoo. She was known for her unique personality, curiosity, and undeniable charisma. She took an active interest in whatever her keepers were doing and could often be seen running around her yard enjoying a few β€œzoomies” before settling in to snuggle with the other members of her group on chilly mornings.

β€œDiane was a beloved member of our Roosevelt Park Zoo family who touched the hearts of so many people,” said Dr. Logan Wood, Roosevelt Park Zoo Director. β€œShe had such a wonderful personality, and those of us who had the privilege of caring for her will always remember the special moments we shared with her. We are incredibly grateful for the 10 years Diane spent with us and for the joy she brought to our Minot community.”

As Diane aged, she developed intestinal cancer, which required ongoing specialized care. Her dedicated animal care team worked closely with her to manage her condition and maintain her quality of life. Her care included a specialized diet, pain management, frequent monitoring of her weight and overall wellbeing along with a lot of tender loving care. Throughout her treatments, Diane demonstrated remarkable cooperation and trust in her keepers. Her willingness to participate in her care made a lasting impression on everyone who worked with her.
