As September wraps up we'd like to recognize National Kinship Care Month. It's a time to recognize and celebrate the relatives and close family friends who step up to care for children when their parents cannot. Kinship caregivers provide children with stability, love, and a sense of belonging during difficult times.

At CASA, we see firsthand the important role kinship families play in helping children stay connected to their roots and culture while ensuring they feel safe and supported. Thank you to all of the kinship caregivers. We are grateful for their commitment to keeping families strong.

Join us for Downtown On Tap at Windfall , co-hosted with CASA Missoula, on Tuesday, September 29th, from 5-7 p.m. Downtown On Tap is a casual after-hours networking series Missoula Downtown organizes to bring our downtown community together over drinks, conversation, and connection. We are so excited to be a part of this event and have a chance to talk about the importance of CASA's work. Please come and enjoy a b**r, meet some great people, and learn more about our wonderful organizations!

Thank you to our Board Member, Erika McGowan, and her amazing team at Windfall for providing us with a beautiful space to connect with the community! We'll see you there!

Join us Wednesday, Sept. 23rd at Sunrise Rotary to hear from Scott Appel, the Executive Director of Casa os Missoula. CASA of Missoula provides independent, trained advocates for the best interests of children within the judicial system who are at substantial risk or have experienced abuse or neglect. We provide consistent, long-term advocacy until every child resides in a safe, permanent home.

Scott and his family have a long history with CASA. Scott served on the CASA of Orange County Board of Directors for six years, the last two as Chairman. Scott’s wife, Maura, was an Advocate in Orange County and two of his children started a club in their high school to raise money in support of CASA. Scott and Maura moved to Missoula after falling in love with the community during their visits to their son, who attended the University of Montana.
Scott has over 35 years of professional experience providing public and private companies with accounting, auditing, financial reporting and business advisory services. He spent the last 20 years in executive management positions with professional services organizations. Scott recently retired from Hein & Associates LLP where he served as the Office Managing Partner of the Irvine Office and as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and then from NextLevel where he served as the Managing Partner of the Seattle Office.

Last week we celebrated our fantastic work-study student, Molia Dao! Molia has been such an asset to CASA over the years (working mostly behind the scenes!), managing our data, organizing court documents, and making sure our volunteers feel appreciated. She completed her bachelor's at the University of Montana earlier this spring and is now starting her Master's in Speech-Language Pathology! Molia is such a talented, kind, and compassionate person. We know she will excel anywhere she goes! We appreciate all of your hard work Molia, we will miss you greatly.

Thank you to United Way of Missoula County for the B**a Pizza gift card so our team could give Molia a proper send off!
