MCHD WIC Clinic

MCHD WIC Clinic Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition program. Call (888) 942-4673 to obtain further information.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition program for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women who had a baby within the last six months, infants, and children under the age of five. One must meet income requirements and have a nutritional risk that proper nutrition could help to improve. If you think you may qualify, please call your county health department to make an appoi

ntment. At the WIC appointment, you will need to bring all three of the following:
•Proof of residency (a document with your street address on it, such as a lease or bill)
•Proof of identity (a driver's license, birth certificate)
•Proof of income (pay stubs) or proof of enrollment in a state program (automatic income eligibility if currently enrolled in TANF, Food Stamps, or Medicaid)

At the appointment, once the above is documented, you will be evaluated for nutritional risk. Nutritional risk is one of the main qualifying factors in determining benefit eligibility for pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding women, and infants and children under five.

On this week’s Wellness Wednesday, the renovated breastfeeding room at the Keeler Memorial Building is highlighted as part of Breastfeeding Awareness Month. Mobile County WIC's mission is to better serve our participants, and the breastfeeding peer counselor program is just that.

The video can be viewed at https://youtu.be/Q8ivYZkwOVg

The team is led by WIC’s Breastfeeding Coordinator, LaDina Hudson. Located on the second floor of the Keeler Memorial Building in Downtown Mobile, the room offers refrigerated water for breastfeeding moms to stay hydrated, a changing table with disposable changing pads, touch lamp control, as well as an area to plug in electronics.

WIC’s Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program consists of Andrea Portis, Terilyn Hodges, and Nafeesah-As-Saleeyah. Our peer counselors can help troubleshoot supply issues and talk through barriers of breastfeeding.

For more information on the local WIC program, visit https://mchd.org/wic/ or call 251-690-8829.

As we wrap up National Health Center Week, we celebrate the vital role community health centers play in strengthening Mobile County. Family Health, Accordia/AltaPointe, Mostellar Medical Center, Franklin Primary Medical Center, and our many valued local partners provide an essential safety net — helping individuals and families access affordable, quality health care close to home.

Access to care remains a challenge for many in our community. Community Health Centers rise to meet that need every day, delivering compassionate, comprehensive care and helping build a healthier Mobile County for all.

Thank you,
Dr. Kevin Michaels
