The Alabama Department of Public Health, in partnership with USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute and the City of Mobile Community Affairs Department, is offering FREE prostate cancer screenings on August 12.

Men between the ages of 40 to 69 are encouraged to get screened for cancer, which includes biopsy, pathology, and counseling services, all at no cost.

Food trucks will be on-site, making this a great opportunity to enjoy lunch while participating in this important health awareness event! 🍔

This event will take place at the James Seals Community Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Is your home rain ready? Create your own rain garden or purchase a rain barrel for your home or business, and get reimbursed for your purchase! 🌧️

Fill out the application online. Then, collect your receipts and fill out the reimbursement form. The deadline to be reimbursed is September 15, 2026.

Inflatable Night: Grown-Up Edition is this Saturday, August 1 at Medal of Honor Park! Adults ages 21 years and older are invited to embrace their inner child with oversized inflatables, music by DJ Herb Love, food trucks, games, and good vibes from 7-10 p.m. 🤸🎈

This event is for adults only, so you will be asked to show your ID at the entrance. Coolers, blankets, and lawn chairs are allowed, but glass is NOT allowed. We encourage you to wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. 👟

This year marks the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Since it was signed into law in 1990, this legislation has expanded opportunities for Americans with disabilities by reducing barriers, changing perceptions, and increasing full participation in community life.

Throughout the year and on the anniversary of the ADA, we celebrate and recognize the progress that has been made by reaffirming the principles of equality and inclusion and recommitting our efforts to reach full ADA compliance. HEAT SAFETY REMINDERS:
• Drink plenty of water.
• Stay in air-conditioned spaces or shaded areas when possible.
• Never leave children, older adults or pets unattended in a vehicle.
• Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Check on older adults, neighbors and others who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.

Lavretta Park is getting a new playground! 🛝 This $1.1 million investment marks the first upgrade to this playground since 2001. The design includes new specific play areas for ages 2-5 and 5-12 with swings, a rock wall, a zip track, a mound and tunnel section, slides, shade canopies, benches, and many other amenities.

Construction will begin after school starts back next month. ☀️
