🌞✨ A huge thank‑you to all the incredible organizations who made our "Unearth A Story" summer programming unforgettable! 🦖📚

From animal encounters to fossils, glowing dinos, hands‑on science, and stories from Florida’s past, our community spent the summer exploring, discovering, and celebrating curiosity together.

• Animal Tales, LLC wowed our families with amazing animal ambassadors and fun wildlife facts.
• North Florida Wildlife Center introduced us to native species and shared inspiring conservation stories.
• Florida Public Archaeology Network - North Central Region brought history to life with powerful presentations. “Dear Friends at Home” featured letters from a young Civil War soldier. FPAN taught kids what real archaeologists do, offering a hands‑on Pot Smash activity that let kids reconstruct artifacts like true field researchers.
• Florida Geological Survey led a hands‑on gallery walk through Florida’s rocks, minerals, and fossils.
• Aucilla Research Institute amazed everyone with a fascinating mastodon exhibition that transported us to ancient Florida.
• Our Family & Teen Movies brought everyone together for fun, nostalgic adventures on the big screen. Some of the titles showcased included Indiana Jones, The Mummy, and The Land Before Time. 🦕
• The Dino Scavenger Hunt had kids racing through the stacks in search of prehistoric clues.
• Teens enjoyed a festive Taco Bar and friendly Nintendo Switch battles.
• Our glowing kickoff Dino Party set the tone for a summer full of wonder.

We’re so thankful for our families, teens, and partners who made every program special — we loved sharing this season of learning with you. 📖

Join FPAN at the library this Wednesday, July 15th at 10:00 AM for Archaeology Speaks: "Dear Friends at Home" – A Personality Preserved in Ink.

Melvan Tibbetts wasn’t a famous figure, just a young man writing home during his time in Florida during the Civil War. But the 20 letters he sent back to his family in Maine let us see who he was: thoughtful, funny, homesick, enthusiastic, and full of personality.

In this talk, we’ll get to know Melvan through his own words and explore how much life and character can be captured in a simple letter. It’s a reminder that even everyday documents can bring the past vividly (and personally) to life!
