Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Launches Holiday Weekend Safety Operations

Beginning today and continuing through the 4th of July holiday weekend, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office will deploy enhanced patrols to protect residents and visitors and to ensure a safe, enjoyable celebration across our communities.

Deputies will be highly visible throughout the county and will focus on:

1. Traffic enforcement: Proactive stops and strict enforcement for both passenger and commercial vehicles, with special attention to impaired, aggressive, and distracted driving.

2. Community patrols: Frequent checks of businesses and neighborhoods; deputies will engage with residents to promote safety and deter crime.

3. Off-highway vehicle safety: Patrols along Big Wheeling and Fish Creek to ensure ATVs and UTVs are operated safely and legally.

Additional safety measures include:

DUI enforcement and sobriety patrols. Designated drivers and ride-share options are strongly encouraged.

Waterway awareness near creeks and crossings. Expect increased presence near popular gathering areas to ensure safety.

Emergency readiness. Deputies are equipped with first-aid supplies, AEDs, and Narcan.

Public reminders:

* Buckle up, slow down, and put the phone away.

* Don’t drink and drive; plan a sober ride.

* Keep pets secured and hydrated; high temperatures and fireworks can cause stress.

* Be respectful of private property and posted signs.

“As Sheriff, I want our county to have a fun but safe holiday weekend; deputies will be out in force - on the roads and in our neighborhoods. Your cooperation helps keep our community safe.”

Department members collected 17 bags of trash, I couch frame, and 893 ticks in the 2 mile stretch tonight during our adopt a Highway work detail. Please don’t litter. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff we picked up🤢

1 year ago our neighbors in Ohio County encountered a flood they never thought they would ever see. Your department sent crews and equipment for days after helping with rescue/recovery efforts, and working with other agencies in the rescue command center. We also sent trucks after everyone was accounted for to help clean the streets and help citizens. We sadly lost 2 of our own community citizens in the tragic flood.
Let’s not forget about the Shadyside flooding on June 14, 1990. Several lives were taken and mass devastation happened. 2 major floods on the same date.

1 positive takeaway. Newly appointed Assistant Chief D.J. Kaylor has since purchased an Australian Shepherd, “Pistol” and she has been going through very extensive training to become a search dog. Pistol has a ways to go, but she has been doing very well. We can’t wait to see the future holds for her. So if you see a dog in the trucks, you know it’s just one of our members!

Honored to participate in Belmont County spring tanker task force training. Your members practiced using alternative methods of water supply and shuttle operations.

EMTs are spending their Saturday evening taking the state protocol update for 2026.
This is done yearly amongst several other mandatory trainings.
EMS calls are the majority of our calls. We take being your premier agency very seriously.
We are very fortunate to have our own state instructors for fire and EMS here at the station.
EMS training coordinator Mike Hughes is leading tonight’s classes.
