May 29 is Heat Awareness Day.

This day is recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Weather Service to raise awareness about the serious and preventable health risks related to heat.

Outdoor workers and others who spend extended time in the heat are especially at risk for heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion, dehydration, heatstroke, and even death.

There are simple steps you can take to stay safe:
• Stay hydrated
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
• Use sunscreen
• Avoid being outdoors during peak temperatures
• Limit strenuous activity in the heat

Heat Awareness Day is a reminder to look out for yourself and others, especially those more vulnerable, and to take steps to prevent heat-related illness.

US National Weather Service Detroit / Pontiac Michigan has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Macomb County until 7 PM this evening.

Have multiple ways to receive warnings and stay weather aware.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of southeast Michigan until 7 PM this evening. A corridor of strong to severe thunderstorms ahead of an approaching cold front may produce damaging wind gusts, isolated large hail, and locally heavy rain. Have multiple ways to receive warnings and stay weather aware!

Strong to severe storms are possible again across Macomb County this afternoon and evening. The strongest storms may produce damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, large hail, isolated tornadoes, and localized heavy rainfall.

The greatest threat window is between 3 PM and 8 PM. Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and stay weather aware throughout the day.

The potential exists for severe thunderstorms to develop this afternoon and evening. The strongest storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, isolated tornadoes, and localized heavy rainfall. Stay weather aware today!
