Thomas Paine Historical Association TPHA is a nonprofit historic association established in 1884 to honor the legacy of Thomas Paine. Entry is free.

We are the authority on the life, works, and legacy of Paine and welcome visitors to our new exhibits Saturday from 1-4pm. Thomas Paine Historical Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization headquartered at the Thomas Paine Memorial Building, located at 983 North Avenue in New Rochelle, New York 10804. We welcome visitors to our newly-renovated museum every Saturday from 1 to 4pm. Entry is free with an optional donation supporting the work of the TPHA.

Thomas Paine arrived at the Calais in September 1792 fleeing his impending arrest in England for seditious libel he published Rights of Man. English poet William Blake’s undated drawing of Thomas Paine from a manuscript in his Notebook (page 74). In 1792, Blake warned Paine to flee London moments before authorities came to arrest him for treasonous libel over his writings. Paine was tried in absentia and lived forever in exile.
