The rhythms were alive at our Grace Agard-Harewood Older Adult Club yesterday as members immersed themselves in the vibrant traditions of West African culture! 🥁💃🌍
Thanks to the support of The Brooklyn Arts Council and Su-Casa, our members enjoyed an engaging and interactive West African dance class that explored far more than movement alone. Participants learned traditional words and phrases, discovered the significance of various instruments and percussion rhythms, and gained a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural traditions and customs that have shaped West African communities for generations.
Of course, the highlight for many was putting their newfound knowledge into practice! Members happily donned colorful dresses, swished their skirts, and danced to the infectious rhythms that filled the room with energy, joy, and laughter.
At Fort Greene Council, we’re proud to offer programming that celebrates cultures from around the world while keeping our older adults active, engaged, and connected.
Please enjoy these wonderful moments from a day filled with music, movement, learning, and community!
