Across ecosystems and territories, are facing increasingly severe climate-related disasters that disrupt their lands, waters, food systems, livelihoods and cultures.

Yet Indigenous Peoples are already responding, restoring ecosystems, strengthening territorial protection and adapting through their own Governance and Knowledge systems.

We don’t need to start from scratch. We need to support what is already working.

Climate finance must reach Indigenous Peoples directly and recognize them not only as beneficiaries, but as leaders of adaptation and climate solutions.

The report highlights a critical gap: Indigenous Peoples are leading responses on the ground, but is not reaching them directly at the scale needed.

From Protection to Power: Strengthening Indigenous Governance and Community-Led Remedy in

At the 8th UN Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum in Asia-Pacific, , human rights defenders, civil society, and UN experts came together to discuss Indigenous Peoples' governance, corporate accountability, , and community-led remedies.

Representing Land is Life, Asia Program Director Satej Chakma highlighted the upcoming 20th anniversary of and stressed that its implementation must be the priority.

He emphasized that FPIC is not simply consultation. It is rooted in Indigenous Peoples’ self-determination, governance, and right to give or withhold consent.

Meet Aisatu, one of the fellows in Land is Life’s Indigenous Women’s Program.

As part of her fellowship project, “Strengthening Mbororo Women’s Traditional Knowledge Transfer for Climate Resilience and Biodiversity Conservation,” Aisatu is creating spaces for elders and youth to exchange knowledge, preserve cultural practices, and strengthen sustainable ways of caring for their territory.

By supporting the intergenerational transmission of Mbororo women’s traditional ecological knowledge, her project contributes to climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and the continuity of Indigenous knowledge systems.

🎥 Aisatu created this reel as part of a reels workshop for our fellows, where they explored how to use storytelling and short-form video to communicate their work and the changes they are creating in their communities.

We welcome the designation of H.E. Duma Gideon Boko, President of , as Champion for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in by the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights.

The designation recognizes the importance of sustained political leadership in advancing the rights of hashtag across the continent.

At a time when Indigenous Peoples across Africa continue to face dispossession of ancestral lands, discrimination, marginalization, climate-related vulnerabilities and exclusion from decisions affecting their territories, this leadership can play an important role in strengthening visibility, dialogue and accountability.

We congratulate President Duma Boko on accepting this important continental responsibility and look forward to continued efforts to advance Indigenous Peoples’ rights across Africa.

For years, Indigenous Peoples in and , , have faced increasing pressure to leave their ancestral lands.

Conservation and tourism projects have brought forced evictions, violence, intimidation and arrests - cutting communities off from the land and resources they depend on .

On 21 August 2026, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) confirmed the pattern and demanded Tanzania to immediately halt forced evictions and ensure the Maasai Peoples meaningful Free, Prior and Informed Consent before decisions affecting their territories.

We are proud to participate today in the panel discussion, “Dialogue with Governments, UN Agencies and Donors,” on the fourth day of the 6th Indigenous Knowledge and Peoples in Asia ( ) Conference in Sabah, Malaysia.

Representing Land is Life, our Asia Program Director Satej Chakma , shared Land is Life’s history and strategic approach, emphasizing the importance of building alliances and strengthening the self-determined leadership of to advance Indigenous Peoples' rights and movements across and beyond.

It was also a valuable opportunity to engage, exchange ideas, and listen to the diverse stories and experiences of Indigenous youth from across the region.
