Are you passionate about social justice? Would you like to join a global network of women of faith from across The Salvation Army, working together to advocate for justice, equality and dignity for women and girls worldwide?

We are looking for women who are committed to learning, collaborating and taking action on issues affecting women and girls.

We welcome applications from women who:

Are aged 26 or over
Are part of a Salvation Army local expression
Will actively participate in meetings, events and collaborative projects
Can demonstrate an interest in, and/or experience of, issues affecting women and girls

The Salvation Army International Social Justice Commission (ISJC) has submitted three reports to the United Nations highlighting serious human rights concerns affecting vulnerable communities in Haiti, Uganda and Ukraine.

Submitted ahead of the 54th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review Working Group in January 2027, the reports draw on The Salvation Army’s presence in each country and its engagement with people experiencing poverty, displacement, exploitation and insecurity.

They identify significant gaps in the protection of human rights and make recommendations intended to improve access to health care, education, social protection and support services.

From 20 April to 1 May, the 25th session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) is taking place at UN Headquarters in New York.

The Salvation Army is represented by the Directors of the International Social Justice Commission, Lt-Colonels Ian and Liz Gainsford, alongside Major Victoria Edmonds, Senior United Nations Representative, reflecting a continued commitment to advocating for the rights, dignity and wellbeing of Indigenous Peoples.

The Commission also welcomed Captain Faye Molen (New Zealand) and Major Stuart Glover (Australia) at the opening of the session, strengthening indigenous representation from the Pacific in these important global conversations.

This year’s Forum underscores the urgent need to address the inequalities faced by Indigenous communities, particularly in access to healthcare, including in contexts of conflict. During the opening ceremony, António Guterres, UN Secretary, highlighted the vital role of Indigenous Peoples in safeguarding our planet, describing them as ‘guardians of nature, a living library of biodiversity conservation and champions of climate action.’

The Salvation Army remains steadfast in standing alongside Indigenous Peoples worldwide, advocating for justice, health equity and the protection of rights rooted in culture, land and community.

The 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council concluded in Geneva after meeting from 23 February to 31 March 2026, addressing some of the world’s most urgent human rights challenges.

During this session, The Salvation Army raised its voice on critical issues affecting the most vulnerable. General André Cox (Rtd) and Mr Markus Hofer delivered verbal statements - one on the right to adequate housing, and another speaking firmly against the sale, sexual exploitation, and sexual abuse of children.

Markus reminds us that, as human rights face increasing threats, we are called to speak up for the voiceless, the poor, the needy, and the widowed; and to be neighbours, peacemakers, and advocates for hope, even during the most challenging times.
