FYI! Trash pick-up schedule for next week!

The City of Newport Public Works Department will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. Residential garbage normally collected on Monday will be picked up Tuesday, September 8, and Tuesday’s route will be collected Wednesday, September 9. Regular residential garbage collection will resume Thursday and Friday, September 10 and 11.

Upcoming Events!!


The Newport Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the 22nd New Vision Newport Leadership Class! This local leadership development program gives participants the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, learn more about the Newport and Jackson County community, visit local businesses and manufacturers, participate in a trip to Little Rock, and build valuable professional relationships. Anyone living or working in Jackson County is encouraged to apply. Class 22 will begin with a mandatory overnight retreat in Conway on Friday and Saturday, September 11–12, followed by one class session per month and graduation in May. Tuition is $350 and includes materials, meals, and travel, with limited scholarships available. Applications are due now so click on https://form.jotform.com/252324942619056 to get your application in.

The Jackson County Historical Society has an exciting lineup of programs planned for 2026–2027, featuring fascinating stories from local, state, and national history. The series kicks off on August 30 with “The Phantom Marine from Newport,” presented by George Jared, true crime author. Upcoming programs will also explore Black women’s activism in rural Arkansas, Civil War fiction, World War II military history, and more. Mark your calendars and join the Historical Society as they bring history to life through these engaging programs. Be sure to follow Jackson County Historical Society on Facebook for all events.

Get ready to show your Newport pride at the Community Pep Rally on Monday, August 31, in Downtown Newport! Festivities begin at 6:15 p.m. with tailgating, games, a DJ, and an M&P cookout, followed by the pep rally at the stage at 7 p.m. Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to join the fun by setting up games and activities. Bring the whole family, wear your orange and black, and come out to celebrate our community spirit!

Join a free workshop and consulting event hosted by the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center. The event will take place on September 9, located at Tech Depot, 209 Hazel Street, featuring a workshop Funding Your Business from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. focused on funding your business and practical strategies for small business growth. One-on-one consulting sessions will follow from noon to 2:00 p.m. by appointment only. There is no cost to participate, but pre-registration is required. Call 870-972-3517 to register.

Join the 12th Annual Unity in Christ Recovery Rally on Saturday, September 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lakewood Park in Newport. This free community event will feature live worship, guest speakers, free food, free table space, and fun activities for kids. Attendees can also enjoy the Crowd’s Favorite Motorcycle competition, featuring free entry, a trophy and bragging rights, plus a $100 prize.

Faith Life Recovery invites the community to Victory Fest ’26 on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Tuckerman City Park in Tuckerman, Arkansas. This free, family-friendly event will be a powerful afternoon of worship, encouragement, and celebration, centered on the theme: “Celebrate the Victory. Share the Freedom. Lift Up Jesus.” Attendees will enjoy live worship led by Assembly Worship, inspiring messages from Pastors Brandon Gates and Sharon Hughes, family activities, food and drinks, prayer resources, and opportunities to connect with others in the community. Come experience an uplifting day of worship, freedom, hope, and fellowship for all ages.

The Jackson County Career Workshop will be held on Wednesday, September 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Tech Depot, located at 209 Hazel Street in Newport. This free workshop will provide hands-on assistance with résumé development, interview preparation, job search strategies, workplace etiquette, and other valuable career skills to help job seekers confidently pursue employment opportunities. Participants are encouraged to bring their work history, including employer names, addresses, job titles, and employment dates, along with high school graduation information and any additional training or certifications. Mark your calendars for KidsFest on Saturday, September 19, in downtown Newport! This fun-filled community event is all about the kids, with something exciting around every corner! Enjoy a petting zoo by Cockrill’s Critters, craft building, a balloon artist, Backyard Battle & Games, inflatables, games, activities, entertainment, hands-on fun, and more for children of all ages. Come hungry and grab something delicious from Southern Skillet, Tropical Sno’, and Cora’s Kettlecorn. Bring the whole family and join us for a day of fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories in downtown Newport. Save the date and get ready for KidsFest!

Rev up your engines and join us for the 1st Annual Down South Speed Show & Swap Meet on Saturday, August 22, starting at 9:00 a.m. located at 416 Front Street in Newport. Hosted by Dalton Bennett, this exciting event will feature classic cars, trucks, drag cars, motorcycles, UTVs, audio builds, a swap meet, food trucks, vendors, and more. Contest entry is $10, with awards presented to the top three entries in each class. Food trucks, snow cone vendors, and other vendors are encouraged to participate, and anyone planning to enter a vehicle or set up as a vendor is asked to register in advance.
