This is “Witches, Midwives, and Nurses: A History of Women Healers," a text that has been popular in feminist and nursing history reading circles for over 50 years. It’s also one of the pieces of literature that feds decided was so dangerous that they gave a Texas man 30 years in federal prison for it last month.
Reading about the history of women healers is not a crime. Neither is organizing your neighbors or showing up for immigrants in your community. We stand with the 15 Minnesota protesters and union activists and demand all charge be dropped.
We stand with every nurse, organizer, and neighbor who refuses to look away and who keeps showing up. Care work like nursing is radical because we care for everyone, but that's what we do. As union nurses know, when the people in charge start targeting you, it's because they're scared of the power we have.
