The next generation of North Port Fire Rescue is putting in the work.

18 potential NPFR cadets took on the Physical Ability Test, pushing themselves through a series of demanding challenges designed to evaluate the strength, endurance, and determination required for a career in the fire service.

From the first station to the last, these candidates demonstrated grit, perseverance, and a commitment to pursuing a profession built on service to others.

The Physical Ability Test is just one step in the process, but it's an important one. We appreciate every candidate who stepped up to the challenge and gave it their all.

Please join us in welcoming FF/EMT David Lopez to North Port Fire Rescue!

David is an FSU alumnus, husband, and proud girl dad of two. He currently lives in Ruskin while attending Hillsborough Community College pursuing his Fire Science Technology AA degree.

Although David had heard great things about NPFR, it was during the Physical Ability Test that he truly saw the brotherhood and culture of the department and knew it was where he wanted to build his career.

Outside of work and school, David enjoys lifting weights, practicing jiu jitsu, playing golf, and chess.

David is excited to become part of the NPFR family, and we are excited to have him on the team.

Welcome to North Port Fire Rescue, David!

The North Port Engineer program conducted their annual municipal water supply course on Tuesday May 26. This training event included a classroom lecture and a practical exercise in the afternoon focused on understanding, evaluating, and maximizing water supply capabilities in a municipal water supply setting. The course was a multi agency event with Sarasota County and North Port Fire departments both participating. The goal of the training was to ensure large volume water supply needs can be met in areas where the hydrant system might be lacking. North Port Fire Rescue continues to be always ready and always prepared.

Please join us in welcoming FF/EMT Joseph Guttman to North Port Fire Rescue!

Joseph grew up in North Port, specifically in the Warm Mineral Springs area, and attended North Port Elementary before it became Glenallen Elementary. After heading to the East Coast for college, he met his wife and eventually decided to return home to raise their family in the community they love. Today, Joseph and his wife are proud parents of two amazing children.

North Port has always been home to Joseph, and serving his community was something he felt called to do. With North Port Fire Rescue’s outstanding reputation, he knew he wanted to be part of the organization.

Prior to joining NPFR, Joseph worked in law enforcement and construction, bringing a diverse background of experience and service to the department.

Outside of work, Joseph enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, whether it’s boating, wakeboarding, fishing, or spending time in the woods during hunting season.

Joseph is excited to begin his career with NPFR and looks forward to becoming a valuable asset to both the department and the community.

Welcome to the NPFR family, Joseph!

Congratulations to FF/PM Layne Boyette on achieving Paramedic in Charge (PIC) status!

Layne recently completed the required testing process in front of Medical Director Dr. Johnson and the NPFR EMS Division, demonstrating the knowledge, leadership, and clinical skills required for this important milestone.

Achieving PIC status means Layne is now cleared to serve as the lead paramedic on emergency medical calls, a significant accomplishment that reflects hard work, dedication, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care to our community.

A special shoutout as well to EMS-FTO Keith Barreto for his mentorship and guidance throughout the process.

Engine 83 "B" Shift answered the call for a “bird in distress” … and this one really had crews winging it.

Crews assisted Animal Services with rescuing a hawk that became tangled in fishing line/netting stretched between two trees. The hawk had found itself in a pretty sticky situation, but thankfully help was on the way.

After some careful maneuvering, crews were able to cut the hawk loose and bring the incident in for a safe landing. The feathered patient was then turned over to Animal Services for further evaluation and care.

Just another day at NPFR - where even our rescues sometimes soar to new heights!
