North Ridgeville Fire Department

North Ridgeville Fire Department North Ridgeville (OH) Fire Department. Operated by the North Ridgeville Firefighters’ Local 2129 Station 1:
7000 Ranger Way

Station 2:
34523 Lorain Rd.

Founded in 1931, the Ridgeville Township Fire Department was originally formed as a volunteer service, serving a population of less than 5,000 residents. In 1957, an official station (Old Station 1) was built to house fire apparatus and equipment used by the firefighters. By 1960, the township had grown enough, and the city of North Ridgeville was formed. Along with a surge in population, the need

to expand city departments was soon evident, and the fire department transitioned to a full-time service in 1967, affording the residents protection around the clock. In 1970, the department's first ambulance was put into service, responding to medical emergencies throughout the city and providing basic life support (BLS). In 1974, Station 2 was built to help improve response times to a quickly growing southern portion of the city. 1995 saw an expansion of the department, adding 7 new members who were all state certified Paramedics. With these Paramedics, the city was now able to provide advanced life support (ALS) service to it's residents. All members hired since 1995 are required to be state certified Paramedics prior to employment. The department now responds to both fire and medical emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. All active members are state certified Firefighters and Paramedics. At this time, the North Ridgeville Fire Department is made up of 40 members including:
One Fire Chief,
Two Assistant Fire Chiefs (Training and Fire Prevention),
Three 12 member shifts working in 24 hour rotations known as A, B, and C shift, each comprised of 1 Captain, 3 Lieutenants and 8 Firefighters,
and one Civilian Administrative Assistant. Per the City of North Ridgeville’s Social Media Policy:

🚒 North Ridgeville Fire Department – June Fire Safety Tip
Monthly Fire Safety Tips

The North Ridgeville Fire Department continues our Monthly Fire Safety Tips series to help keep our community safe throughout the year.

As temperatures rise and more people spend time outdoors, this month's focus is on staying safe during hot summer weather.

☀️💧 June Safety Tip: Heat & Hydration Safety

Summer activities can be enjoyable, but prolonged exposure to heat can quickly lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke.

☀️ Heat Safety Tips
🔸 Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🔸 Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
🔸 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing when outdoors.
🔸 Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
🔸 Never leave children, older adults, or pets unattended in a vehicle.

⚠️ Know the Warning Signs
Heat exhaustion may include:
🔸 Heavy sweating
🔸 Dizziness
🔸 Nausea
🔸 Weakness
🔸 Headache

Heat stroke is a medical emergency and may include:
🔸 Confusion
🔸 Loss of consciousness
🔸 Hot, dry skin
🔸 High body temperature

🚨 If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 9-1-1 immediately.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Check on Others
Older adults, young children, and individuals with medical conditions may be more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Consider checking on family members, neighbors, and friends during periods of extreme heat.

A few simple precautions can help everyone enjoy a safe and healthy summer.

If you have questions about summer safety or other public safety topics, the North Ridgeville Fire Department is here to help.

Stay safe, North Ridgeville, and watch for next month's Safety Tip! 🚒☀️💧
