The mission of the Oak Park Police Department is to provide high-quality law enforcement services that are accessible to all members of the community. Oak Park Police officers believe in the dignity of all people and respect individual and constitutional rights. The Department follows a community based policing philosophy that relies on citizen involvement, problem solving, ethical behavior, leadership and the value of employees. This philosophy and its values guide interactions both within the Police Department and the community, as officers work to promote quality of life by maintaining and improving peace, order and safety through excellence in law enforcement and community service. Members of the community are welcome to comment and share feedback on the Police Department’s page. Once posted, the Police Department reserves the right to delete submissions that contain vulgar language, personal attacks of any kind or offensive comments that target or disparage any ethnic, racial, minority or religious groups. The Police Department also reserves the right to delete comments that are spam, clearly off topic, advocate illegal activity, promote particular services, products or political organizations or infringe on copyrights or trademarks.

The OPPD Citizen Police Academy gives residents the opportunity to learn about patrol operations, mental health response, investigations, evidence collection, crime analysis, community policing and more.

📍 LOCATION CHANGE: Tonight’s Domestic Violence Action Rally will be held indoors at the Oak Park Public Library, Main Branch.
With rain in the forecast, we’re moving the rally inside and hope to see you there.

Join Sarah's Inn during Domestic Violence Awareness month for a rally that aims to bring technology-facilitated abuse out from under the radar. Please join us in congratulating Officer Kass, our September Officer of the Month! 🎉

As a Training Coordinator, Officer Kass plays an important role in keeping our officers prepared, trained, and equipped to serve our community. His dedication was recognized by his nominator, who highlighted his efforts throughout September, including conducting patrol r***e training and a high-risk traffic stop class for newly graduated police recruits.

Officer Kass goes above and beyond helping to strengthen our department’s preparedness and operational readiness.

After 23 years with the Oak Park Police Department, Officer Kass continues to make a difference behind the scenes and in the field. We are proud to recognize his commitment to his fellow officers and to the Oak Park community.

Drivers are reminded that when a school bus is traveling on a two-lane roadway and is stopped to pick up or drop off pupils, the vehicles in all lanes must stop as required by state law. Red flashing lights and extended stop arms indicate the bus has stopped and children are getting on or off. Yellow flashing lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop to load or unload children, and motorists should slow down and prepare to stop their vehicles. Save the date - we are one month out for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, coming up on Oct. 24. Safely dispose of expired and unwanted prescription drugs in a special collection box in our police lobby in the lower level of Village Hall, 123 Madison St. No liquids, please. The collection box is accessible 24/7. The Village also has a sharps disposal program available during business hours in the main Village Hall lobby.
