The Officers and Members of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the family, friends, and the members of the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department following the Line of Duty Death of Firefighter Eugene Cervi.

Today, we honor Firefighter Cervi's dedication, courage, and selfless service. His sacrifice serves as a solemn reminder of the risks firefighters willingly accept in service to others. His legacy will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched and by the fire service family.

Please keep Firefighter Cervi's loved ones, his brothers and sisters at Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and all those mourning this tremendous loss in your thoughts and prayers.

Line of Duty Death Announcement

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company announces the Line of Duty Death of Firefighter Eugene Cervi.

Firefighter Cervi faithfully served his community as a dedicated member of the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company. His commitment to the fire service, his fellow members, and the citizens and visitors of the Deep Creek Lake area reflected the highest traditions of volunteer emergency service.

Eugene’s service, sacrifice, and devotion will never be forgotten. His loss is deeply felt by our fire company, our families, our emergency services partners, and the community we are honored to serve.

We ask that you keep Eugene’s family, friends, and the members of the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Funeral and memorial service arrangements will be shared once they are finalized.

Rest easy, Firefighter Cervi. We will take it from here.

As a reminder to everyone visiting Swallow Falls State Park: the rocks around the falls and river can become extremely slippery, even when they appear dry. While the water may look inviting on a hot summer day, conditions can change quickly and what seems like a harmless adventure can become a life-threatening emergency in seconds.

Please use caution, stay on designated trails and viewing areas when possible, supervise children closely, and never underestimate the power of moving water.

Stay safe and help us keep our parks enjoyable for everyone.
