I was crying myself to sleep 3 years ago because I was soo lonely…
And now, I have more than 10 local women I call “friend.” 🥹
We’re not all living in the same part of town, we’re not members of a shared community, and family and Friday nights and finances look different for all of us. None of my friends knew each other before they met me — and yet, I’m obsessed with bringing together some of my favorite people.
Today is National Friendship Day, and I’m thinking about how friendship is the best part of my life right now. And my hope is that everyone experiences this level of love, support, trust, and commitment at some point in life — ideally, with other local women. 💕
You don’t need a friend group (unless you really want one). You just need a “friendship landscape” that affirms each part of your identity (i.e. race, gender, beliefs, interests, etc.), mutual effort and trust, and a good mix of activities and things you enjoy talking about with your people.
I’m 34 and female friendship has been a top priority for me for about 3 years. How old were you when I felt satisfied in your friendships overall? (Totally okay if you haven’t been and aren’t now. Maybe CAMP OMA - Creating A More Personal Omaha can help you find a seat at the right table. 🧡)
