Every neighbor has a story. 💙

Oneseas, a fifth-grade teacher, wasn't sure where to turn when she reached out to Christian Service Center for assistance. As someone who is always helping her family and friends, asking for help herself was unfamiliar.

Through Christian Service Center's rental assistance program, Oneseas received the support she needed to remain stably housed, heal and continue showing up as her best self.

As an educator, Oneseas understands the importance of having a safe and stable place to call home, not only for herself, but for her students as well. When housing is uncertain, learning, growth, and opportunity can all be put on hold.

At Christian Service Center, we work alongside our neighbors and community partners to create housing solutions that help individuals and families maintain stability and build brighter futures.

Thank you, Oneseas, for trusting us with your story—and thank you for the difference you make every day in the lives of your students.

Meet this week's Good Neighbor: The HOPE Team

Ellease, a Street Outreach Specialist with the HOPE Team, shared what being a Good Neighbor means to her. The HOPE Team is a valued partner on our campus, providing direct outreach, housing care coordination, and housing case management to help our neighbors on their journey toward stable housing.

Ellease and the entire HOPE Team bring positive energy and compassion to our campus every day, and we are grateful for the difference they make in the lives of our clients.

Thank you, HOPE Team, for being such wonderful Good Neighbors to our community!

Restrooms are such a key part of our everyday lives, but restroom access is something many people experiencing homelessness simply do not consistently have. We at the Christian Service Center are happy to be opening a new and modern restroom facility for our clients to get easy access to clean facilities. How would you feel if you didn’t have consistent access to restrooms?

People experiencing homelessness still have goals and dreams; For many these are simple things like finding consistent work and housing. We spoke to some of our clients about where they would like to see themselves in the future. What are some of your goals and dreams?

At the Christian Service Center we wouldn't be the organization that we are without our incredible staff and team members! We want to shine the spotlight on Maria A, our Lead SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families,) Case Manager who works with our Veteran neighbors to secure and maintain permanent housing, prevent or end homelessness, and connect with community and VA benefits. She has been with the CSC team for almost 23 years and we want to thank her for continuing to be a champion of our mission!

What inspires you in your job?
Seeing when you are able to accomplish helping your client and seeing them smile and succeed.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Socializing with my coworkers!

What accomplishment are you most proud of during your time here?
Seeing programs grow and flourish. I was one of the first involved with the RUSH program here and to see how many families we were able to house was so special.

What is one of the biggest misconceptions people make about those who are unhoused?
That our neighbors experiencing homelessness just want handouts. That's not true. Oftentimes, they have the assets they just don't have the resources or assistance needed to put them on the right track.

Thank you Maria for being a consistent team player and bringing positive energy to every interaction!

Many myths surround homelessness and people experiencing homelessness. These myths are often complete distortions of the reality of what is happening on the ground, so we want to take the opportunity to dispel some of these myths and give people accurate information about homelessness and those who are facing it on a daily basis. What is the most surprising thing you have heard about homelessness, either fact or myth?
