Blodget Lake Outage:
Update 11:15pm - Power is now restored to all members associated with this outage after the crew replaced a broken piece of equipment. If you are still without power, let us know through Smarthub or using our outage line (746.7697).
Original post 10 pm: Dispatch is reporting an outage impacting 55 members near Blodget Lake in the Meadow Lakes area. A crew is heading in from home to head to the location and assess the situation.
Update 4:00pm: Power has now been restored to all members except the Alaska Club. Thanks for your patience today everyone! Alaska Club, the crew is still working to resolve your issue.
Update 3:00pm: the crew was able to isolate the issue and restore power to many of our members. The section from Walmart to the Alaska Club on that side of the highway remains without power. The crew is focusing its efforts on that remaining segment and a member report of damage.
Update 2:30pm: The crew finished their patrol and did not find anything so they tried to heat back up the line, but it failed. This means that there is still an undetected issue somewhere on the line. The crew is now going to coordinate with our dispatch center to turn sections of the line back on. That serves two purposes: first it will allow us to restore power to as many members as possible while we continue to look for the source of the outage. Second, it will help us better isolate the problem section. Your power may turn on and back off again during this process. Thanks for your continued patience. We know power is more important than ever right now and the crew is working diligently to restore it.
Update 1:20pm: The crew has still not found an obvious cause. They have one more section of line to check. If they find nothing, they will try to ‘heat up’ the line and see if it holds.
Update 12:20pm: The crew is still patrolling the line to find the cause and have not yet found anything. Once we know the cause we will be able to provide a better sense of restoration time. Hang in there Wasilla!
11:10am: we have a feeder-level outage affecting downtown Wasilla and 650 members. Crews are patrolling now to determine the cause. We will post updates as we get them.
While the annual membership meeting has been postponed, the 2020 election is continuing as scheduled. Learn how you can vote in this year’s election and have the opportunity to win some great prizes!

***Windstorm Area Outages***
Update Monday 3:30pm: Oh happy day! The crews are crushing it this afternoon. We now have power restored to all members associated with our larger outages. Crews continue to work on smaller 1-10 member outages including a broken pole impacting 8 members. The MEA team wants to say a big thanks for all the patience and kind words from our members out there over the past day and a half. Also big thanks to contract crews from Alaska Line Builders and Northern Power Constructors for sending us reinforcements - it would have been a much tougher day without your support. With the major outages over, we are wrapping up Facebook posts unless something else impacting 50 members strikes. Enjoy the rest of this beautiful (and hopefully less windy) weather!
Update Monday 2:00pm: Crews have made some great progress in the past few hours:
- Fishhook: The crew has been able to restore power to 900 members, leaving 400 to be restored. Crews are now patrolling the rest of the line after reports of a few other trees on the line. If we don’t find anything else too serious, we can bring the rest up within the hour. We’ll keep you posted on what we find.
- KGB/Edlund: Crews are still hard at work with this one but nearing completion of repairs.
- Big Lake: All large outages have been restored. Crews remain working on individual reports of trees in the line.
- Hollywood and Vine: Restored!
- Pt MacKenzie: Restored!
- NEW outage on Gulkana in Palmer impacting 26 members. A crew is on site making repairs.
Update Monday 11:45am: While we haven’t seen many of the larger outages restored yet, having solved our access issues, the crews are now all able to focus on repairs.
- Fishhook: The excavator has finished creating a path for the bucket truck and the crew is now in the middle of repairs. There is a lot to repair, including re-stringing of lines, broken cross arms and other damaged equipment. Several hours still remain on this outage.
- KGB: Extensive repairs continue with 2 crews on the scene.
- Long Island Big Lake: This outage has been restored!
- Big Lake: A second Big Lake outage impacting 42 members was restored. That crew is now working to restore a 26 member outage off Big Lake road and making good progress.
Big Lake 8 member outage: Extensive repairs continue.
Hollywood and Vine: A crew is on the scene repairing a downed wire and damaged transformer.
Update Monday 10:30 am: Crews are making progress on these tough repairs. Fortunately, the amount of new outages has significantly slowed to allow us to catch up. Here’s what’s happening:
- Fishhook: crews are still gaining access to the site. We now have additional reports of more downed trees further up the line so the complexity continues to grow for this outage. Hang in there.
- KGB: a fresh contract crew has now provided reinforcements and equipment to this outage with significant damage. We are still at least an hour away from restoration.
- Long Island Big Lake: the crew is on the scene and has removed a large tree. They are now restringing the line and hope to be restored within the next hour.
- Big Lake 8-member outage: clearing crew has completed its work and the line crews are now making repairs.
- NEW outage - Betty J Rd near Hollywood and Vine impacting 41 members. Once a crew is freed up from one of these other outages, they will head that way to assess the situation.
Update, Monday 9:00 am: Thanks to everyone for your continued patience as the crews continue to battle the damage from this wind storm. We know it’s even more difficult as we’re all stuck at home depending more than ever on our power. MEA is pulling in as many contract crews as possible to restore the the damaged lines. Here’s a rundown of the current situation:
Palmer-Fishhook (1300 members): Power is out due to a remote section of tree-damaged line. Crews attempted to restore by hiking in tools to the area but with the complexity of the repair, they require our large bucket truck. We now have an excavator creating a path to the damaged line. Once that is done, the crew will be able to get in there and make repairs. Expect a few more hours on this one.
KGB (was 380, now 150): the crew was able to locate the damage and reroute power to half of the members. Now they are gathering supplies necessary to make repairs and will likely be another hour or two to make repairs and restore power.
Big Lake (Long Island 45 members): A crew has now been assigned and is bringing in a light duty truck to gain access to the island. We’ll keep you posted with what we find.
Big Lake (8 members) This group of members was a part of a larger outage that started last night. Clearing crews are onsite to help clear out the significant fallen trees and then the crews can restring the line.
We also have numerous 1-4 member outages and reports of trees on the line not yet impacting power. Our crews are working their way through the list of those based on severity, safety and number of members out.
Hang in there everyone! Our crews continue to battle the wind to bring power back during this important time!
Update, Monday 7:45 am: Crews are still working on rehanging wire in the Palmer Fishhook area outage. They have to hike in at certain spots which is making this a longer repair. A crew patrolling the lines in the KGB area outage impacting 380 members located downed wire and they are fixing that. A crew has been assigned to the Fairview Loop area outage impacting 100 members. For the 8 member outage in Big Lake on Hydroplane, we have some clearing crews coming on site that will need to clear some trees for further linemen access. There are an additional 43 members out in the Big Lake area and we do not have a crew to respond to that outage yet. We are getting in 3 additional contract crews to help with outage restoration right now. We know these outages have been lengthy and it’s due to the extent of damage caused by this wind storm. Additionally tough terrain and limited access are also making our responses a challenge. We will get power restored, just know that it may take more than a few hours. We greatly appreciate your patience as we work through this.
Update, Monday 5:40 am: We have a few larger outages crews are working on. We have roughly 1,300 members out in the Palmer Fishhook area as crews fix downed wires. We have a crew coming in to an outage on KGB impacting 380 members, and another crew has been assigned to an outage impacting 100 members in the Fairview Loop area. A crew working on a 50 member outage in Big Lake had to go get additional equipment and will return on-site to make repairs.
Update, Monday 2:45 am: Power has been restored for most of the Big Lake Road outage members. There are 8 members still out on S Muskrat Dr as they finish up rehanging wire. Thank you for your patience.
Update, Monday, 1:30 am: Crews located downed wire on Big Lake Road that will take a few hours to repair.
Update Monday, 1:20 am: We have two crews patrolling the lines looking for any hazards or issues impacting the 200 members that are out in the Big Lake Road and S Big Lake Road areas. We also have an 800 member outage in the Palmer Fishhook area that we are calling in an additional crew to help respond to. We have reports of trees on the lines up that way. We also have a crew finishing up an outage in the Equestrian Acres neighborhood impacting 27 members that included removing a tree that had fallen in the lines.
Update at 10:55 pm: We currently have 5 crews responding to outages and they will be working throughout the night. We have roughly 355 members without power. Some of the larger outages include 120 members out on Big Lake Road (a crew is en route), 59 members out in the Rainbow Park/Meadow Lakes area, and 40 members out in downtown Palmer (a crew is on site). We have an 8 member outage in Big Lake on Hydroplane Circle from earlier this evening that crews are having to access by snow machine and foot to make repairs. We expect that outage to be at least a few more hours. Thank you for your patience as we continue to respond to outages throughout our service territory.
Update at 7:45 pm: Power has been restored for the massive outage we just experienced. We apologize for interrupting Tiger King. Thank you for your patience.
Update at 7:35 pm: We have transmission that went down causing two substations to go out creating an outage for about 10,000 members in the Palmer, Sutton, and Butte areas. Crews are working on it and we hope to have all power restored here shortly.
Update at 6:45 pm: We have 33 members in the downtown Palmer area without power. A crew is on their way.
Update at 2:10 pm: lots of progress has been made and we are now down to 90 members without power. We have 6 crews working in the field right now as we will get everyone back on. Lots of fallen trees in the lines today that have been causing damage to equipment. We appreciate the reports and photos of trees in the lines from members as it helps our crews locate hazards faster. As a safety reminder, please do not go near or touch any trees that have contacted the lines. They could be energized. Please make sure if you have an outage that you report it either through your SmartHub account or by calling. Never assume that we automatically know your power is out. We thank you for your continued patience during our response.
Update at 12:26 pm: It’s been one of those outage responses where fixes haven’t been quick or easy so many of them have been taking crews 4+ hours and once they get done they hop on over to the next one. Our Linemen got hit with a ton of outages around 3 am this morning and are trying to get everyone back on from earlier as quickly as possible. Right now one crew is finishing up hanging a transformer and completing repair work for 14 members off of Seldon Road that have been out since 3:30 am. Once they wrap up work there they are heading over to a 9 member outage off of Trunk Road where folks have been out of power since 4:15 am. Additionally we have crews removing trees in the lines and repairing wire near W Hollywood Road and S Sylvan Lane where that outage is impacting 144 members. We will continue to work to get everyone back on as quickly as we can.
Update at 11:00 am: Power has been restored for members off of Palmer Fishhook, Church Road and in the Houston area. Crews are continuing to work on outages including off of KGB, Fairview Loop, and Schrock. We currently have just over 300 members without power. We appreciate your patience and understanding as crews work safely through these high winds.
Update at 10:05 am: Crews had to expand that outage on Palmer Fishhook in order to remove a large tree that fell on the 3 phase line. That outage is impacting 487 members. We have another crew working on the outage on Schrock impacting 114 members and anticipate to have power restored there within the next hour. We have another crew working on a 46 member outage in Houston from earlier this morning. And another crew working in the Fairview Loop area where there are a few smaller outages impacting 100 members in that area. They are currently removing a tree on the line in Fairview Loop. We will send our next available crew to the 144 member outage on Vine and Sylvan. We appreciate your patience. Please make sure you are reporting your outage either through SmartHub or by calling the outage line.
Update at 7:45 am: Just checked in with our Dispatchers. We have four crews currently out in the field working on outages and a fifth crew coming in. Linemen responding to the Fairview Loop outage located a tree that had fallen on the line and taken wire down. They are in the process of repairing that. Crews are wrapping up repair work to get members in the Church Road and Meadow Lakes Area back on here shortly. We will continue to be working on outages throughout the morning. These winds are expected to last through tomorrow afternoon.
Update at 5:25 am: We have several outages in the MatSu impacting a total of 1,150 members at the moment. There are two larger outages, one impacting 220 members near the Parks Hwy and Potter Road, and a 330 member outage in Fairview Loop, both have crews working on them. We have a total of three crews responding to outages in the field right now and an additional crew being called in. It’s been a busy overnight for our linemen and we greatly appreciate your patience as we work to restore your power.
Update at 3:45 am: Power was restored for members off of Hyer Road. We have one crew responding to a 55 member outage off of KGB, and another crew responding to a 15 member outage off of Bogard Rd and Aspen St. Some additional outages include 41 members off of Fairview Loop and a 42 member outage off of Lake Lucille Road. Crews will be responding to these outages. We greatly appreciate your patience as we work through this wind storm.
Update at 2:35 am: Crews are patrolling the lines looking for any additional issues causing the outage for members off of Hyer Road. Meanwhile a separate crew is on their way to respond to a 55 member outage off of KGB near W Caroline’s Circle. We appreciate your patience as we work through these high winds.
Update at 2:05 am: Crews are on site at the Hyer Road outage and located some damaged equipment. They have made a quick repair and will try to restore power here shortly.
Update at 12:25 am: Power has been restored to the 1,200+ members who were out off of Wasilla Fishhook Road. Crews removed a large Birch Tree that had fallen into the primary line. Meanwhile, crews are responding to the other outage impacting 117 members off of Hyer Road. Thank you for your patience as we respond to get the power back on.
Update at 11:23 pm: We have a report of a tree on a line up N Wasilla Fishhook Road. We should have a crew on site in about 20 minutes to assess the situation and work to get the power back on as safely and quickly as possible.
Update at 10:57 pm: We have a feeder outage impacting more than 1,200 members in the Wasilla-Fishhook and Bogard Rd areas. A separate crew has been called in to respond to this large outage.
Original Post at 10:28 pm: We currently have an outage impacting 117 members off of S Lower Road near Hyer Road. A crew has been called in from home to respond to the outage. We will provide information as it comes available. Winds have really picked up in this area in the past few hours.
