🌈 Happy Pride Month from all of us at Friends In Deed! 🌈

June is a time to celebrate the belief that every person deserves to be welcomed exactly as they are. In our Food Pantry, in The Women's Room, on our streets, and in our community, we strive every day to create spaces where everyone belongs.

To our LGBTQIA+ neighbors, guests, volunteers, donors, and staff: you are seen, you are valued, and you are celebrated. Always! β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ–€πŸ€ŽπŸ©΅πŸ©·πŸ€

When Tim, Director of the Food Pantry, went on vacation, we did what any normal workplace would do β€” we made a cardboard cutout of him. πŸ˜„

Meet Flat Tim.

Flat Tim drove the van. Flat Tim welcomed neighbors to the Food Pantry. Flat Tim had deep conversations with guests at The Women's Room. Flat Tim even snuck in a nap in the TWR nap room. He was everywhere. He was tireless. He required zero snacks.

A huge thank you to Rosie, our TWR Program Attendant and the mastermind behind Flat Tim, for keeping morale and Tim's cardboard likeness standing tall all week. πŸ™Œ

We're glad you're back, Tim. The real you is great, but Flat Tim set the bar pretty high. πŸ˜‚πŸ’š

Say hello to Mercedes Soto, ICMS Housing Specialist, the newest member of the Street Outreach and Housing team.πŸŽ‰πŸ’š

Mercedes brings 12 years of social services experience and a deep passion for helping people feel seen, heard, and supported through life's hardest moments. She's also a foodie, a traveler, a true-crime enthusiast, and a mom to a 130-pound Cane Corso puppy who apparently stops traffic wherever he goes. πŸΎπŸ˜„

We are so glad she's part of the Friends In Deed family.

Drop a πŸ‘‹ in the comments to welcome Mercedes to the team!

Adriana grew up in her Altadena home. The Eaton Fire took it in an instant. πŸ‘πŸ’”

What followed was a year of uncertainty: a scattered family, an unforgiving rental market, and the kind of stress that makes it hard to imagine the future. When Adriana finally found a compassionate landlord willing to work with her, she was still facing an impossible gap.

Thankfully, the Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance program stepped in to help. Our Housing Navigator Russell worked with Adriana and her landlord to cover past-due rent and bring her account current. For the first time in months, she could breathe.

More than a year after the Eaton Fire, families are still rebuilding. Stories like Adriana's are a reminder of why this work matters and why it can't stop.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is a reminder of the cost of freedom and the importance of caring for one another as a community.

In observance of Memorial Day, Friends In Deed offices will be closed. We will resume regular hours on Tuesday.

Wishing you a safe and meaningful day of remembrance.

What a morning to remember. βœ¨πŸ™

The 53rd Annual Pasadena Mayor's Interfaith Prayer Breakfast brought our community together in the most beautiful way, and we are still feeling the warmth.

A heartfelt thank you to our keynote speaker, Miguel A. Santana (California Community Foundation), for your powerful words and the spirit you brought to the room. Thank you to the City of Pasadena and Mayor Victor Gordo for your continued partnership and commitment to this cherished tradition. Thank you to Fiona, a guest of The Women’s Room, for sharing her story; she is so brave and so strong.

And a special thank you to everyone who joined us for a morning of reflection and celebration.

What if interim housing could be beautiful, affordable, and made from recycled materials? πŸ‘β™»οΈ

Rabbi Joshua sat down with Gene Edelman, co-founder of , to talk about how his company is quietly solving one of the hardest problems in housing and why LA hasn’t caught on yet. (Spoiler: we’re hoping that changes soon. πŸ‘€)

This one will make you optimistic. Promise.

We are deeply grateful. 🫢

The Pasadena Community Foundation recently awarded nearly $600,000 in capital grants to 29 Pasadena-area nonprofits, investing in programs and the infrastructure that keeps those programs running. For Friends In Deed, that means a brand new Food Pantry freezer that will help us serve our neighbors even better.

More than a year after the Eaton Fire, so many families are still rebuilding. PCF's commitment to this community and to the organizations doing this work every day means the world to us. Thank you, Pasadena Community Foundation. πŸ™

After the Eaton Fire turned her world upside down, Marisol, a single mom in Pasadena, spent months navigating job loss, hotel stays, and the looming threat of eviction. Then she found Friends In Deed's Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance program. πŸ πŸ’š

Swipe through to read her story, a reminder that for many families, the fire's impact is far from over.

Stories like Marisol's are why we do this work.
