The Crooked Shelf Books and Brews in Statesville, NC is a brand new indie bookstore/coffee shop that opened its doors just weeks before our visit. The historical building once served as a laundry facility for the nearby orphanage but has a much happier second life selling books and coffee to browsers that seem to appreciate the new addition to their community.

There was a small book club quietly meeting in one of the sitting areas, a few people sitting at tables inside & out with beverages & baked goods, shoppers browsing the shelves and an area reporter for the local paper interviewing shoppers while we were there. The owners and employee were very friendly and happily embossed their logo into my indie book store passport. The iced coffee was delicious too! 🧋📚

This sure sums it up! We actually turned the heat on briefly this morning to take the chill & dampness away. Today is a great day to wrap up in a blanket and get lost in a good book. What was your favorite read in May? I have been enjoying “on the hippie trail” by Rick Steves. 📚

We straightened up the Little Library on Maiden & added a few new books today. “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah is one of them. Coincidentally there is also a copy of this book at our second little library (Little Library on Lakewood) for our Vermont friends.

We want to thank the recent visitor(s) who shared some great children’s books in the little library. Also, thank you to the two set of walkers who took the time to stop to tell me how much they are enjoying the little library. It made my day! Happy reading! 🧡🩵

We loved this community garden with the garden containers, painted fence murals picnic area and a new little library filled with children & adult books. It looked to be an entirely brand new set up this season. Weaving gardens, books and community together is the concept at “The Garden Little Free Library” by Green Neighbors Network in Kingston, PA. It was definitely a fun find!🪴📚

The Caring Cupboard Food Pantry at the Peru Library is a wonderful source of free food items for the community. We noticed recently that it could use more donations of in date shelf stable food. The Caring Cupboard is open during library hours. 💕

Fred and June’s new location in Mooresville, NC was as incredible as we had imagined. As soon as we walked through the doors we were drawn to explore the shelves, enjoy the eclectic decor and discover all of the cozy reading spots. The staff was both personable and helpful in finding what we were looking for. We left with (more) new books and had earned a surprise $10 store credit for having shopped at all three of their stores that day! 📚
