Lawncrest Branch - Free Library of Philadelphia A library outranks any other thing a community can do to benefit its people. - Andrew Carnegie The Lawncrest Branch opened its doors on September 18, 1961.

It serves the communities of Lawndale, Crescentville, and Cedar Grove. The Route 18 Bus stops right by the library and the R8 train stops nearby at Lawndale Station.

American Ink: Cartooning, Comic Books, and Comic Strips
August 5, 6, & 7 at 2 pm

A three-day program of cartooning and comics, with an emphasis on fundamentals, storytelling, and American life.

Did you know that Bil Keane’s long-running comic strip “Family Circus” was based on his life right here in Lawncrest? In the tradition of our very own famous cartoonist, aspiring artists will be introduced to the basics and much more. From character development and storytelling to gag writing and materials, many topics and techniques will be discussed, demonstrated, and explained by Philadelphia cartoonist and artist Bob Dix. An end project “Sunday comic page” will be the goal. Time and tradition as well as modern takes will be emphasized.

Today, Monday, July 6, 5 pm, the Consumer Protection Bureau of the PA Attorney Generals Office is holding a workshop about Deceptive Sales Practices & Contracts for Goods and Service to empower participants to recognize and avoid common sales scams, such as bait-and-switch tactics, misleading “going-out-of-business” promotions, and continuous sales that disguise regular prices as discounts. Attendees will also learn key precautions to take when entering contracts for goods and services, including the risks associated with rent-to-own agreements.
