Thank you to the everyone who attended our “Growing Successful Tomatoes”, part of our Gardening from Around the World series. Special thanks to Master Gardener instructor, Sandy Grimwade. We learned about the tomato’s origin, seed starting, growing requirements, favorite varieties, growing timetables, planting tips, growing tips, support, pruning, troubleshooting, and harvesting.

Then, we planted tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers in the Northeast Regional Library Community Garden!

We planted the following varieties:
- Tomatoes: “Early Girl Hybrid”, “Sweetie”, “Black Krim”,

“Cherokee Purple”.
- Eggplants: “Black Beauty”, “Larger Purple Early”,
- Peppers: “California Wonder”, “Chinese Giant”

Come and ask about our Community Garden. In a few weeks, we'll be harvesting the garlic we planted last fall.

Library Hourse: Monday & Tuesday, 11 AM - 7 PM; Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday, 10 AM - 5 PM.

Tomatoes are an essential ingredient in cuisines and dishes around the world. Nothing beats the delicious flavor of a homegrown tomato. Learn about the basics of cultivation, varieties that do well in our region, and a timetable from seed to harvest. Then plant some tomatoes with us in the garden!

Some of this program will take place outdoors in the garden. Dress appropriately. We recommend bringing your own gloves and knee pads. Tools are limited; we recommend you bring your own. If it rains, this program will move inside. Call ahead for more information: 215-685-0522.
