Happy Labor Day!

Today we honor the hardworking men and women whose dedication has built our communities, strengthened our economy, and helped shape a better future for every Pennsylvanian. As a lifelong advocate for working families and organized labor, I am grateful for all those who continue to carry that legacy forward every day.

Please note that my offices are closed today in observance of the holiday and will reopen during normal business hours tomorrow.

I'm thrilled to see the Philadelphia School District receive $140,000 in PAsmart funding to expand career and technical education opportunities for our students. This investment will introduce more young people to high-demand fields like advanced manufacturing and construction while providing hands-on training, industry credentials, and pathways to rewarding careers. Investing in our students today means building a stronger workforce for tomorrow.

Since Shapiro took office, there have been more than 17,600 overdose reversals using naloxone across the Commonwealth.

As the new school year approaches, don't miss out on SUN Bucks! Eligible families can receive $120 per child to help purchase groceries while school is out, but the application deadline is August 31.

I'm also proud that this year's state budget includes additional funding to strengthen ChildLine, giving caseworkers the training and resources they need to better connect children and families with critical services and keep our communities safe.

Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to witness history at Tioga Marine Terminal as they hosted the Commonwealth's first-ever point-to-point flight of a hybrid-electric aircraft during Electra's live flight demonstration.

This innovative technology has the potential to transform regional travel by making it easier to connect communities while reducing congestion at our busiest airports. What an exciting glimpse into the future of transportation right here in Philadelphia!

It was a great afternoon filled with neighbors, families, food, fun, and plenty of smiles. These picnics are one of my favorite traditions because they give us a chance to come together, connect with our community, and enjoy the summer. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make it such a wonderful day!

Last week, we wrapped up the last of our four Summer Community Picnics, and I’m so grateful for everyone who came out to celebrate with us.

Across the district, we welcomed so many families, shared snacks and plenty of fun, connected neighbors with community resources, and handed out more than 1,000 backpacks and school supplies to help our kids get ready for the school year.

A lot of hard work goes into making these days happen, and I’m incredibly proud of my staff, our community partners, and everyone who helped make this summer such a success.

Most of all, thank you to every family who joined us. Getting to spend time with the people I represent, listen to what’s happening in their lives, and bring a little fun to the neighborhood is what these picnics are all about. I’m already looking forward to next summer!
