Forty-five years ago, on June 5, 1981, the CDC published a report in their Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report describing a cluster of unusual illnesses among previously healthy young men in Los Angeles. What no one knew at the time was that these cases marked the beginning of one of the most significant public health crises in modern history: the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Since then, HIV/AIDS has claimed more than 45 million lives worldwide, including more than 700,000 lives in the United States.

Today, we honor:
🕊️ Every life lost
❤️ Caregivers, community members, professionals and volunteers who stood with those living with HIV
📢 Activists who refused to be silent
💘 People currently living with HIV

While tremendous progress has been made in prevention, treatment, and care, the fight to end HIV is not over. Now in our 40th year of service, Action Wellness continues to work tirelessly to ensure those we serve have the essential services they need to live long, healthy lives.

Thank you to everyone who attended our screening of “Gay Bingo” this past Saturday! 🎥

This event was not only a reminder of the lasting impact of GayBINGO!, which raises critical funds for people living with or at high-risk of acquiring HIV, but also an opportunity to celebrate the people, traditions, and community spirit that have sustained this beloved Philadelphia institution for the last 30 years!

We are grateful to our partners at the Philadelphia Film Society and WHYY, our panelists - Glenn Holsten, Chumley Singer, and Michael Byrne, and to everyone who joined us to honor GayBINGO!’s legacy💖

We are excited to share that Action Wellness has once again placed in the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Philly Favorites contest!

This year, we have received bronze in both the “Best Non-profit” and “Best Place To Work” categories 🎖️

While we are proud to have been nominated and won, we want to congratulate all the nominees who help make Philadelphia the great place that it is!

The LGBTQ+ community has always been part of our foundation and will always be a central pillar of our work at Action Wellness!

In June, we are happy to call this out and celebrate the individuality and diversity that make our community stronger. We believe that Pride is a time to honor history while continuing to support equality, inclusion, respect, and love for all!
