First Food and Friends

First Food and Friends The mission of First Food and Friends is to provide good food, dignity, and a sense of kinship to all we serve in a friendly, family-style environment.

First Food and Friends is a program of First Charities Inc, a 501(c)(3) organization First Food and Friends is a participating member of the greater Pittsbrugh Community Food Bank. Plus, we are honored that our hospitality is made possible in part by generous weekly donations of bread and other baked goods by the Giant Eagle Corporation. In 2011 First Food and Friends served an average of 171 meal

s to individuals in need every Saturday afternoon for a total of 8,000 meals. We are the only Saturday afternoon feeding program in the entire East End of Pittsburgh - serving the communities of Bloomfield, Lawrenceville, the Hill District, East Liberty, Friendship, Garfield, Morningside, Shadyside, and other surrounding neighborhoods

If you would like to help a friend in need there are several ways you can assist us. First Food and Friends is always in need of individuals and groups to help prepare and serve meals. Without volunteers sich as yourself we would not be able to accomplishour wonderful mission. The greated need, however, is financial support. Your generous donations will continue to provide hospitality and warm meals to the people we serve every week. If you wish to help us in any of these ways, please call (412) 676-8925 or send your donations to the address below. Hunger does not take a holiday! Thanks to the efforts of our wonderful Volunteers who gave their time on the 4'th of July, our friends were served a wonderful holiday picnic meal. The menu included Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Baked Beans, Macaroni Salad, Condiments, Watermelon Slices, and a Cold Beverage. Our Friends were thankful that the volunteers came out on the holiday to cook and serve! Here are some pictures thanks to Sue and Lorraine! Also thanks to Pastor Tracy Cox and the First United Methodist Church for the reusable water bottles that they provided. Our friends truly appreciated them and it will help them during these hot temps that we have been having.
