Writing on the desks in Calculus? Absolutely!

Our PHS Calculus students traded paper for desktops as they explored a mathematical concept that has been proven for centuries: the absolute maximum and minimum values of a continuous function on a closed interval must occur at endpoints or critical points.

By sketching graphs and exploring possibilities, students developed an intuitive understanding of why this works rather than simply memorizing a rule.

Sometimes the best way to understand great mathematical discoveries is to make a few discoveries of your own!

Who says Calculus can’t have some moves?

Calculus is all about change, and our PHS students are learning how derivatives help us measure the rate of change at any given moment.

To bring that concept to life, students broke out the Slope Dance, using movement to demonstrate how slopes change along a curve.

When learning gets students out of their seats, moving, and thinking, that’s bringing joy to learning at PHS!

Calculus at full speed! 🏃

Our PHS Calculus students took their learning to the track to time their 40-yard dashes and explore the Mean Value Theorem.

By calculating their average speed over 40 yards, students connected a key calculus concept to real-world motion, discovering how mathematics can help explain what happens between the starting line and the finish line.

At PHS, we don’t just learn the math. We put it in motion!

A special night celebrating some of the very best of PHS!

Tonight, we proudly welcomed 160 new members into the Plainfield High School chapter of the National Honor Society!

These students have demonstrated a commitment to the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Their induction recognizes not only what they have accomplished, but also the choices they make and the positive impact they have on our school and community.

Future healthcare professionals in training!

Students in PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science (PBS) at PHS are learning how to measure blood pressure, practicing an essential skill used by healthcare professionals every day.

Beyond learning the technique, students are exploring what blood pressure tells us about the cardiovascular system and why monitoring it is important to our overall health.

Another opportunity for our Quakers to connect classroom learning with skills used in the medical field!

Building neurons, one piece of clay at a time!

Students in PLTW Human Body Systems (HBS) at PHS are getting creative as they work in groups to build models of neurons. By constructing the different parts of a nerve cell, students are exploring how its structure allows it to receive and transmit signals throughout the body.

A little clay, some teamwork, and a better understanding of how our nervous system works!

Friendship is what Just Friends is all about!

Our PHS Just Friends club brings students together with their peers in our Life Skills program to build friendships, create connections, and enjoy experiences together.

Their recent Hayride and S’mores Party was a great opportunity to spend time together outside the classroom, share some laughs, and make memories.

This is what makes the PHS community special. Everyone belongs, and friendships make us stronger!

How fast does gravity pull an object toward Earth? Our Physics 1 Honors students decided to find out for themselves!

Using the height of a bridge and a stopwatch, students dropped tennis balls and calculated the acceleration due to gravity. Then they repeated the experiment using video analysis technology to track the motion more precisely.

Both methods worked, but students discovered that video analysis produced significantly more accurate results.

A great lesson at PHS in physics, experimental design, and how technology can improve the accuracy of scientific measurements!
