Idaho State University

President Satterlee: On behalf of all of the faculty and staff at Idaho State University, I would like to say that we are proud of you. You represent our success stories. We believe in education here, but while we believe in it, you, in fact, are living proof of that belief. Go out in the world and make us proud and never forget your ROAR.

Congratulations to all our CMP Graduates!

Though we can't honor you in person this year, that doesn't mean that we aren't so very, very proud of each and every one of our graduates! We've enjoyed watching each and every one of you grow, and can't wait to see where you go from here. All Bengals roar, but we have no doubt that your roars will be heard loudly, powerfully, and for years to come.

Congratulations Class of 2020!

ROAR!

The National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) team took 3rd place in the District 11 2020 NSAC competition. This year, the client was Adobe, making this the first business-to-business (B2B) campaign in the history of the competition. Students on the team included Nyele Alvarez, Sophia Bissell, Matt Spaletta, Orion Martin, Jason Vesser, Nicholas Bringhurst, Jessica Rodriguez, Mia Wallace, McKenzie Michael, Tristan Beard, Charlotte Walton, Katie Griffith, Lau Akana-Phillips, and Valerie Blackburn. The team was led by Dr. Summer Shelton and Amanda Bennett who could not be more proud of their fantastic students.

The NSAC course (CMP 4460) is offered each spring and the class focuses on a different national client each year, competing against other schools in surrounding states late in the spring semester. It is open to advertising students, those in public relations, graphic design, marketing, and any others interested in gaining hands-on experience in the advertising/marketing realm and gaining career connections. Any students interested in NSAC as a spring course should email Dr. Shelton at [email protected] to learn how you can become involved in the ISU Student Advertising Federation this fall to best prep you for the NSAC course in the spring.

As you start planning for Fall Registration, don't forget that We have Summer classes available as well!

Like this one from Dr. Summer Shelton!

04/10/2020

Well, this one snuck up on us like the FBI on Joe Exotic: Registration starts next week!!!

Don't forget that CMP advisors, faculty, and staff are all here and ready to help you. If you don't know who to contact or where to go, drop us a message right here and we'll get back to you.

03/25/2020

If you are like a lot of us on the faculty, you've been waiting for the other shoe to fall in the coronavirus pandemic, and it did so today with the Idaho Governor's "Shelter in Place" order. Obviously, Idaho State University wants to do everything possible to adhere to the order and protect students from the virus. As such, all the CMP labs, studios, and workspaces will be CLOSED until further notice. The faculty is continuing to convert our courses to distance-based instruction and will continue to adjust as the crisis evolves.

Our goal is to allow you to complete your work for this semester in an effective and timely manner, while meeting as many of the educational outcomes as possible, given the circumstances.

Know that we're here for you and with you over the next few weeks. No one will judge you if you video chat with a partner walking across the background, a small child on your hip, or in pyjamas. We will meet you where you are.

We are, as always, a community. And as a community we will get through this.

To totally steal from President Satterlee-
ROAR CMP. ROAR.

03/25/2020

We hope you're all enjoying a safe and socially distant Spring Break! We're all doing the same, and looking forward to coming back together virtually next week!

03/14/2020

As of the message from the President, ISU is on Spring Break effective Monday. Faculty, instructors, and staff will be working next week to establish and enact a plan for all classes following the break. Please be patient as we all work through this time, and know that you, our students, are the first priority.

Did you know that Idaho State University used to be the Idaho Technical Institute?

Crews renovating Frazier Hall found this original tile mosaic underneath the carpet in the main entryway. The crew is now taking pains to preserve this lost piece of ISU history.

Dead Week a killer for students studying for finals

Check out what Dr. Dan Reimold has to say about college dead week in this article from USA Today.

Dead week needs to be reformed and expanded, a number of student newspapers argue in recent articles and editorials. Traditionally, this short period between the end of classes and the start of final exams each semester is meant to live up to its...

Welcome to ‘Dead Week!’ Dead week, or hell week, is US slang for the week before college and university final examinations. The week is often characterized by heightened test anxiety, students working to overcome procrastinating their test preparation or writing term papers. This can lead to sleep deprivation, irritability, and vomiting.

Wishing you lots of luck for your finals as we step into dead week this week!

Hello Idaho State University! I thought I'd share this video with you all since you share a common interest in media and communications! I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments. Lets chat! Here is the link to the full video:
My first time back to my home town in years became one of the most terrifying moments of my life. Pure chaos and horror was unleashed on the MGM properties as people ran for their lives, not knowing what was coming or going. I know others in our community have been affected by the same tragedy. I feel like I need to help and maybe there are others in the community who want to as well.
