Our students out in Portland proudly represented Pocomoke High School and the Maryland Chapter of Educatorโ€™s Rising while competing on the national level. While competitions are closed to spectators, the confident smiles they wore post competition were all we needed to know that they had excelled in true Pocomoke style. We have also continued to explore Portland and the Pacific Northwest - enjoying Saturday Market, the Hawthorne Asylum food pod, and kayaking to the 2nd largest waterfall in the US. This continues to be a truly epic adventure!

Day 1 of the Educators Rising National Conference was all about exploring a new city and checking out the location of the competition. We walked nearly 5.5 miles and navigated Portland by streetcar and buses. Powell Books (largest independent bookstore in the world), Sisters Coffee, Por Que No Taqueria, and a brown sand beach of the Willamette River were some of the highlights. We ended the evening playing board games with Mr. Heath (which he designed!) - Mrs. Cashmanโ€™s brother.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedomโ€”more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The day marks the end of slavery in the United States and has become a celebration of freedom, resilience, culture, and progress.
