Gerald E. Talbot Community School

Gerald E. Talbot Community School Talbot Community School empowers all learners to achieve high standards in a safe and welcoming environment. Gerald E. Our school is named in honor of Gerald E.

Talbot Community School is a Pre-K through Grade 5 school located off outer Forest Avenue in Portland, Maine. Talbot. Mr. Talbot is one of Portland’s most cherished and respected community leaders. He is an educator, author, historian, military veteran, civil and human rights activist, founding President of the Portland branch of the NAACP, and is the first African American to be elected to Maine’

s Legislature and to chair the Maine State Board of Education. His accomplishments include the successful passage of the Maine Fair Housing Bill, the Maine Human Rights Act, and the establishment of the Maine Human Rights Commission. We are proud of our diverse population of learners from around the world, who speak a total of eleven different languages. Our school is in a community building which also houses a branch of the Portland Public Library, a Greater Portland Health dental office, and space for the Recreation Department of Portland Parks and Recreation, including a community swimming pool. Our grounds include tennis courts, a basketball court, an accessible playscape for children of all abilities, and multiple ball fields. Gardens planted by students dot the area and a community garden has been established.

Mr. Talbot’s legacy and contributions to our community will continue to be remembered and honored through the students, staff, and families who walk through our doors each day. He lived a full and meaningful life, dedicated to public service and to the citizens of the State of Maine. We are deeply proud to have Mr. Talbot as our school’s namesake and will fondly remember his visits to what he lovingly called “his” school. His presence, kindness, and commitment to community will leave a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the Talbot family during this difficult time.

Happy Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week at Talbot! 🎉🍎

We are feeling all the love this week thanks to our incredible PTO, who have truly been spoiling our staff with thoughtful treats and surprises! 💙

It started with beautiful, inspirational messages “chalked” all along our walkway — such a bright and uplifting way to kick off the week! Then, we were treated to a delicious trail mix bar (fueling us up the Talbot way!), and today brought an amazing assortment of books and classroom goodies. 📚✨

We are so grateful for the kindness, generosity, and support of our PTO and school community. You’ve made us feel seen, appreciated, and celebrated — and it means more than you know!🥰

We look forward to what the rest of the week brings!💛

We’re ending this stretch of the school year on a high note! 🎉

Thanks to their hard work, positive choices, and commitment to our school community, every single student helped us reach our Whole School Earn goal!

To celebrate, we wrapped up the last day before April Break with a well-deserved reward: a Kids-Only (No Adults Allowed!) “Coffee” Cart ☕✨ Students enjoyed being served fun, kid-friendly drinks and snacks in a special experience just for them. We’re so proud of our students for showing what teamwork and perseverance can accomplish.

Wishing all our staff, the students and our families a relaxing and joyful April Break—we’ve all earned it! 💙
