The House Democratic Caucus today elected State Representative Katherine Kazarian to serve as the Majority Leader, making her the first woman to serve in the position.

The leadership team of Speaker Chris Blazejewski (D-Dist. 2, Providence) and Majority Leader Katherine S. Kazarian (D-Dist. 63, East Providence, Pawtucket) received unanimous support from the House Democratic Caucus.

“I am tremendously honored to have such overwhelming support from my colleagues,” said Leader Kazarian. “Working with Speaker Blazejewski and former Speaker Shekarchi has taught me so much about effective, responsive leadership. I’m honored and excited to continue the great work of this chamber.”

“Congratulations to the first woman in Rhode Island history to serve as House Majority Leader, Katherine Kazarian,” said Speaker Blazejewski. “Katie and I have worked very closely together over the last six years, and I appreciate her steady leadership, depth of knowledge, and tireless work ethic. I am incredibly proud to have her lead my team and I am quite sure this is not the last time Katie makes history.”

Senate Armed Committee Ranking Democrat Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) delivered a powerful statement at the Rhode Island Armenian Genocide Commemoration in Providence - including a firsthand account of his visit to Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Several years ago, in one of my trips to Armenia, I had the privilege to go to a place then called Nagorno-Karabakh. Let me assure you: it was Armenian territory then, and I hope one day it will be Armenian territory again."

Senator Reed also called out the ongoing atrocities committed by Azerbaijan against Armenians — and honored the strength of Rhode Island's Armenian community in carrying forward the memory of the Armenian Genocide.

From Providence to the U.S. Capitol! Armenian National Committee of Rhode Island advocates brought the voice of our community to the halls of Congress during ANCA Advocacy Days — calling for U.S. leadership to hold Azerbaijan accountable, release Armenian hostages, and defend Armenia's sovereignty.

Build on their leadership by urging your U.S. Senators and Representative to:
