The House Democratic Caucus today elected State Representative Katherine Kazarian to serve as the Majority Leader, making her the first woman to serve in the position.

The leadership team of Speaker Chris Blazejewski (D-Dist. 2, Providence) and Majority Leader Katherine S. Kazarian (D-Dist. 63, East Providence, Pawtucket) received unanimous support from the House Democratic Caucus.

“I am tremendously honored to have such overwhelming support from my colleagues,” said Leader Kazarian. “Working with Speaker Blazejewski and former Speaker Shekarchi has taught me so much about effective, responsive leadership. I’m honored and excited to continue the great work of this chamber.”

“Congratulations to the first woman in Rhode Island history to serve as House Majority Leader, Katherine Kazarian,” said Speaker Blazejewski. “Katie and I have worked very closely together over the last six years, and I appreciate her steady leadership, depth of knowledge, and tireless work ethic. I am incredibly proud to have her lead my team and I am quite sure this is not the last time Katie makes history.”

From Providence to the U.S. Capitol! Armenian National Committee of Rhode Island advocates brought the voice of our community to the halls of Congress during ANCA Advocacy Days — calling for U.S. leadership to hold Azerbaijan accountable, release Armenian hostages, and defend Armenia's sovereignty.

Build on their leadership by urging your U.S. Senators and Representative to:
Senate: Co-sign the Markey-Whitehouse letter to secure the release of Armenian prisoners

House: Cosponsor the Azerbaijan Sanctions Act of 2025 (H.R.5369)

A friendly reminder that the ANC-RI invites you to join us at a fundraiser TOMORROW for State Senator David P. Tikoian.

The flyer below denotes a suggested donation amount, however, donations of all sizes are welcome.

Senator Tikoian has been an ardent supporter of Armenian issues in the state of Rhode Island, and most recently sponsored the annual Armenian Genocide Remembrance resolution.

Please support Senator David Tikoian as he runs for his second term as a State Senator.

He was a Major of the RI State Police Force, has served as Police Chief in the Town of North Providence and has been serving the towns of North Providence, Lincoln and Smithfield as their State Senator for the past two years.

Sen. Tikoian is a man of the highest integrity and ethics.
Many might also recall that years ago he found a bag with $4,000 cash in it and located the rightful owner, passing on the 10% reward. He was trusted to drive former Governor Carcieri on a daily basis, which included nights, weekends and holidays.

Years ago he provided an army of Armenian police officers from around our state to serve as security when our Catholicos arrived here from Lebanon.

He is the grandson of survivors of the Armenian Genocide and a product of the old Smith Hill neighborhood of Providence. He is humbled to have received his most recent appointment of State Senator and does so on behalf of those who raised and molded him.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to [email protected] at your earliest convenience.
